Abstract: The paper discuss Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) library, digitization efforts and its custom made library software created with Visual Basic. The North Arcot Educational Trust established the Vellore Engineering College in 1984. This college is situated in the city outskirts of Vellore in Tamil Nadu; Southern India. To satisfy the information needs of faculty and students of the university, and to provide all possible user services, the institute established the Central Library in 1984. The VIT Central library at present is housed in a four-storied building with 51,000 square feet built-in area and is centrally air-conditioned. The library building is well designed and constructed keeping in mind all the necessary functions of a library. Mentions all available modules of the software. The VIT library is using simple in-house developed library software since 1998. The software was developed in Visual Basic, by the Center for Technical Support of the institute. The software consists of only two modules, namely, Circulation and OPAC modules and supported by bar code. The VIT library having a well planned library building and modern facilities is trying to digitize their library.
