Abstract: Information superhighway is today thought of as a revolutionary platform intended to form a network connecting computers globally. The Digital Library System (DLS) is an information service in which all the information resources are available in computer processable form and the functions of acquisition, storage, preservation, retrieval, access and display are carried out through the use of digital technologies. It is not restricted to the provision of information in text format. In fact, audio and video resources are also to be represented digitally. A DLS can disseminate its information across a network and users can retrieve information in the same way. Scholarly and professionals interest in DLS has grown rapidly during 1990s. A typical DLS is a media server connected to high speed networks. This paper discusses the typical DLS, with its components and features.
