Item Evolutionof Library Assessment Literature – A Bibliometric Analysis of LAC Proceedings(INFLIBNET Centre, 2015-03-12) Dash, Nrusingh Kumar; Sahoo, Jyotshna; Mohanty, BasudevThe purpose of this paper is to analyze the publications reflected in the Library Assessment Conference (LAC) Proceedings from 2006 to 2014. Taking data from the online Library Assessment Conference Proceedings, we constructed a data set to study various bibliometric dimensions in terms of research topics, growth of literature, authorship distribution, and collaboration pattern. The finding suggest that, the contribution to LAC proceeding has steadily been increased. Some of the authors and organizations have shown their loyalty to the LAC and contributed in every proceeding from 2006 to 2014. It shows that 6 organizations have contributed in all the LAC proceedings with “University of Washington, USA tops the list with 32 contributions Similarly, the study of authors loyalty to LAC shows that 6 authors have shown their loyalty by contributing papers in all the LAC proceedings. “Martha Kyrillidou” and “Megan J.Oakleaf” tops the list with 12 contributions.Item Competence of Altmetrics in Building the Missing Features of Citation Metrics(INFLIBNET Centre, 2015-03-12) S, Sri Amudha; R, SevukanResearch output is multidimensional in nature and the existing bibliometric tools fail to cope up with the growing scope of the research output forms and also have citations as their sole base to evaluate research impact. Citations indicate the usage of a particular research work formally which reflect only the impact among the research community while societal impact is totally ignored. Altmetrics tracks heterogeneous research usages in the online environment which brings impact beyond academia in the picture. Bibliometrics and altmetrics complement each other in creating a more meaningful research evaluationmetric. Thus, the missing parts of citations in evaluating research impact like time consuming and fewothers are expected to be compensated to an extent. With this aim, the paper discusses the limitations of the existing indicators and how altmetrics can be used to fill few gaps. Sample data fromPLOS ONE journal was collected on Brain Damage during 2008-09 to prove that article downloads cannot be potentially used for predicting citations. It was also found that citations and altmetrics do not correlate as they measure different research impacts. The paper argues that citation counts highlights the work that was used to create knowledge and altmetrics reflects if the created knowledge was used for the betterment of the society. Therefore, this paper also strongly concludes that altmetrics cannot be used to predict citations and also states that either altmetrics or bibliometrics will remain unsolved puzzle in evaluating research output unless they are combined together as far as the evaluation metrics is concerned.Item Linking, Improving, Status, Career: Making in Library and Information Science MOOC(INFLIBNET Centre, 2015-03-12) Pathak, Deepshikha; Das, KrishnaObsolesce and depreciation of knowledge and skill is a major issue in any Professional Occupation and more particularly in our Profession as “Information” is the central theme in our field. To showcase the impact of research using science mapping and visualisation, social network analysis has been developed over the period of time. These methods help researchers to understand the structural, temporal and dynamic development of a discipline. The present paper provides a comprehensive overview of widely used softwares used for scientometric analysis, mapping and visualisation.Item Potential Predictibility of References in the Identification of Derivative Articles from Doctoral Theses(INFLIBNET Centre, 2015-03-12) Echeverria, Mercedes; Stuart, David; Blanke, TobiasThis paper reports the results obtained on the predictability of references for the identification of derivative articles from doctoral theses, based on a sample of 68 medical theses and 334 articles published by the same theses authors. The study performs an analysis of the common references shared by theses and articles through a text similarity approach. A textual similarity comparison is carried out with the discursive sections of articles (Introduction, Methodology, Results and Discussion) based on the full-text of theses and articles. The results suggest that the Reference section has a high sensitivity to detect true positives cases and a low specificity to identify negative cases, corresponding to a high recall a low precision in the detection of derivative articles.Item Designing and Developing an e-Learning Platform for Library & Information Science Students of University of Rajasthan: A Study(INFLIBNET Centre, 2015-03-12) Kampa, Raj Kishor; Kaushik, PurnimaWith the advent of information and communication technology (ICT), educational institutions all over the World are leveraging ICT to improve the quality of teaching, thereby increasing the level of student achievement. The study revealsmany important indicators pertaining to computer science literature relating to citation behavior of computer science research. Firstly, almost all the bibliographic document types were referred by the authors, however, the primary research literature i.e. journals and conference proceedingswere dominatedmost. Likemost of the scientific disciplines, the citationswere scattered among core journals and core authors and have been contributingmainly in development of the subject, being the high quality sources. The citing literature ‘half-life’ indicates the dominance of current citations/literature.
