Item Preservation and Management of Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Resources in the Information Society: An Outline of the Solution through Emerging uses of ICTs(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2022-11) Dutta, Anirban; Mukhopadhyay, ParthasarathiThe goal of this exploratory study is to identify the methods and resources that can help create an information system for cultural heritage resources of an indigenous community. As they live in secluded, self-contained groupings and are completely different in terms of culture and ethnicity from modern cultures, the aboriginal peoples, who were India's first residents, are the least developed in terms of economic development and social standing. The management of cultural heritage resources can best be accessed and experienced when they are in operational condition, as it requires consideration of the lives and living conditions of local communities. Throughout history, many indigenous cultures have either disappeared or have been marginalised to the point of extinction due to colonisation, ignorance of modern civilizations, etc. This paper describes the creation and design of a prototype digital indigenous or aboriginal cultural heritage archive, as libraries, archives, and museums are capable of preserving, disseminating, and reusing such indispensable resources. Only open source software and open standards are being used as technical equipment to carry out this study. This prototype comprises the native indigenous community cultural heritage resources of the Rabha tribal group of the Eastern part of India as a proof of concept and considers the necessity of integrating such a system with the traditional library retrieval system for complex information management needs.Item Faceted Knowledge Organization Approach in Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) for Searching and Navigation: A Case Study(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2022-11) Pradhan, Dibya Kishor; Maharana, BuluIn addition to the traditional library information retrieval (IR) practices, the modern library has implemented federated search, web discovery, next-generation cataloguing, and other new tools for effective organization and discovery. Facet navigation (facet search, facet navigation, or guided navigation) is applied to many e-commerce sites and dominates the interface paradigm features. The faceted approach to knowledge organization in search and navigation functions of online catalogues helps users find their necessary information effectively and most conveniently. The application of faceted searching and navigation in library OPAC is discussed in this paper. This study aims to present an overview of OPAC's faceted techniques, which play a crucial role in information retrieval. This paper investigates the system or software used to develop the online catalogue and its status in terms of the faceted knowledge organization approach by the top engineering college libraries in Odisha ranked by NIRF. Identifying nine OPACs for this study found that ninety percent of the OPACs are faceted, and fifty percent of the library prefers Koha ILS. This paper also studied OPAC facet sequence and facet type and discussed how the facet theory is still applied to the OPAC.Item Role of DOAJ in Promoting Open Access in India(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2022-11) Dandawate, Vrushali SainathThe Open Access (OA) movement supports online access to scholarly publications, eliminates financial and legal restrictions, and supports the dissemination of knowledge. Open access is not a new concept for Indian researchers. Still, there is some gap in the open access movement in India. Open access journals are growing in India, but many are questionable publications, and researchers are sending their papers to such journals. Many times, researchers are not able to identify the correct journal for their paper publication. The major goal of this study is to evaluate the role of DOAJ in the corpus of knowledge made by scholarly publications published between 2003 and 2022. Worldwide recognized database DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals) was analyzed for this research study. Open access publishing demonstrates how the world of knowledge is dynamic. India has significantly contributed to the growth of knowledge with its 326 open access journals. DOAJ ambassador and other OA advocates are also trying for promoting open access in IndiaItem Academic Integrity, Information Use and Information Literacy in the Digital Environment: A study from An Ethical use Perspective(2022-11) Dhar, Prasenjit; Gayan, Mithu AnjaliNowadays, the unethical use of information in the digital environment violates academic integrity. In this situation, information literacy is an essential skill mandatory for tackling challenges. The present study aims to find students’ awareness regarding academic integrity, information use, and information literacy in the digital environment from an ethical point of view. By using google form, a questionnaire was distributed randomly to PG students, and collected data were analyzed. Results of the study revealed that 88.24% (60) students are aware when plagiarism happens. Also, most of the PG students know the meaning of censorship (82.72%) and examples of citation style manuals (85.19%). On the other hand, less than half of the respondents were acquainted with the term netiquette (49.38%) and referencing software (27.16%). Further, Hypothesis testing results reveal that there is a significant difference between males and females regarding the statement, “Copying is allowed from open access resources without giving credit or citation or references”. Similarly, a substantial difference between the two age groups students was observed regarding two statements, one is the meaning of censorship, and another one is examples of citation style manuals. The researcher suggested that workshops, webinars, and training may be beneficial for students to keep academic integrity intact.Item User-generated Social Tags Versus Librarian-generated SLSH Terms: A Comparative Analysis in Social Science(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2022-11) Samanta, Kalyan SundarThe present study tries to evaluate user-generated social tags with librarian-generated SLSH terms in three subjects Economics, History and Sociology under Social Science. The study reveals that both social tag vocabulary and SLSH term vocabulary are not the same for all three subjects but are comparatively large in History. Even the study found a terminological difference between both social taggers and the librarian. Social taggers mostly use single-word-based general subject terms, whereas the librarian uses multi-word-based specific subject terms for all subjects. Again, it is found that social taggers use SLSH terms as tags under three subjects but comparatively use all SLSH terms in major books under Economics. Besides, it is also found that social taggers use more terms from book titles than from the librarian. Social taggers use more title-based terms under History than other subjects. Overall, the present study suggests a combination of social tag and SLSH terms that can enhance the accessibility of social science books.Item Global Retracted Research Publications: A Bibliometric Study(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2022-11) Garg, Mohit; Hasan, NabiThe present study used a bibliometric technique to draw the patterns in retracted publications over time.
