Due to ICT only whole world has been become a global village and the other side ICT is accelerating information explosion, which leads to the problem of bibliographical control. But there are some tools, which can help us to manage these digital contents in a systematic order for use. The concept of digital library is very much suitable for information management. Here, we have Greenstone and DSpace Open Source Software for content creation, which are being used for maintaining an institutional repository. After content creations, the objective should be accessing these contents globally, for this purpose we need some broadband networks. In India, UGC-Infonet is the example for such kind of country-wide network which is being responsible for improving the higher educational system in the country with state-of-the-art technology. Now contents and infrastructure with strong network are with us, UGC-Infonet: E-Journals Consortium is one of the good examples which show that how we can facilitate the educational system across the country through this kind of ICT system.Item Studies on the scenario of Internet use pattern of Assam University Community and Local population of barak valley : A survey(INFLIBNET Center, 2004-11) Sinha, Manoj KumarThis paper describes about the usefulness and advantage of Internet in day-to-day life, impact of Internet on the library and information services etc. and explains the aims and objectives of the present survey on the usage of Internet in Barak Valley, methodology used etc. The author highlights the use of Internet in this region is in nascent stage and it has become important to make people of this valley aware for the use of Internet and regarding its potential for having enormous resources of information which can be search instantly provided the minimum facility for Internet access is available. Software agents are autonomous programs which perform a specific personalized task in a heterogeneous and distributed environment. These autonomous, intelligent agents make decisions on behalf of the user, by narrowing the search domain and decreasing the human computer interaction, phenomenally. With the increasing number of institutes and universities across the country and globe it has become very important to share library services rather than duplicating the library facilities everywhere and incurring huge expenditure. In the present paper, the architecture for a digital library DIGLIB is proposed, which helps a user or a group of users identify and find reading material in a virtual or brick and mortar library of his or her interest. DIGLIB uses a software agent which is a unique combination of filtering and information agent to facilitate intelligent search. The information agent performs a general search on various sites rigorously based on a keyword and phrases. The short listed sites are further subjected to a specific search by the filtering agent. The information agent performs a breadth first search on the links ahead and also provides navigation recommendation. A rule-base is maintained by the filtering agent using premises like broad area of interest, specific area of interest, type of article, book, magazine, journals, periodicals etc. to be searched for further narrowing the search domain and suggesting URNs of digital libraries of user’s interest. An attempt has been made to design a digital library interface using an intelligent agent which continually runs in the background and facilitates the task of finding a suitable match between the desired library service and user’s requirement.Item Content Creation, Access and Management Processes in the Digital Era with few Websites of International Content Management Systems(INFLIBNET Center, 2004-11) Kaliammal, A; Thamaraiselvi, GAs the supply of information grows more and more comprehensive, the complexity in handling it also grows. The need for reliable Content Management System (CMS) becomes more and more obvious. A Content Management System allows content to be stored, retrieved, edited, updated, controlled, then output in a variety of ways such that the incremental cost of each update cycle and output production shrinks dramatically over time. Since the amount of information is emerging day to day at a tremendous speed, to find particular information in the mist of information explosion is very difficult and so there is an urgent need for content or knowledge management and services to be adopted in Libraries. Content management is as set of tasks and processes for managing content explicitly targeted for publication throughout its life from creation to archive. CMS are essential for large or even small scale projects which involve the capture of creation of digital assets and is necessary for the creation of any basic Web sites. This paper explains about the concepts of content management, its components, needs and advantages. How the contents can be created, accessed and managed in the digital environment have also been discussed in this paper.Item Institutional Repositories, Open Access Movement and OAI- PMH Complaint Software(INFLIBNET Center, 2004-11) Chand, Prem; Murthy, T A V; Prakash, K; Gohel, UmeshThe article outlines the overview of Institutional Repositories. In beginning, these standards were used to the documents in the print formats like shelf list, catalogue card etc. Gradually, after the invention of the computer technology, representation of information in print format has changed into the electronic format. There with the development of technology, due to flood of information and variations in the representation of the information, were forced the profession to develop different bibliographic standards; till date almost more than 30 bibliographic standards has emerged. Thus, every country is following their own bibliographic standards for representing the print documents into the electronic format. Same way, India is also working in creating the bibliographic databases of the resources available in different academic libraries of the country. INFLIBNET (Information and Library Network) Centre, UGC, Ahmedabad has embarked upon this issue and working in war footing level to achieve the goal. The authors describe the bibliographic standards being used for creating databases by Indian Academic libraries under INFLIBNET umbrella.Item Digital Preservation : Some Aspects in Digital Information Era(INFLIBNET Center, 2004-11) Singh, Ch Ibohal; Devi, Th MadhuriThere has been a sea change in the process of preservation of materials for posterity .In this digital era the concept of digital preservation has also come into the scene which became a challenging task for the professionals in the field of Library and Information activities.
