Abstract: The copyright protection is not merely confined to books but extends to sound recordings, computer programs, films, radio, broadcast etc. The Indian copyright act was passed in 1957 and amended in 1994, 1999 to include computer generating works. Intellectual Property Right in Indian scenario is less known by the people due to extreme illiteracy in context to patent system, copyright etc. included under TRIP (Trade Related Intellectual Property Rights). Librarians play an important role in protecting the rights of copyright holders, patent holders, trademarks, industrial design etc. The Librarians/ information officers should keep themselves aware with latest changes in the Intellectual Property Right and Information Technology Act and their implementation. It is an obligation of the Librarian to keep the user aware about copyright.
