Abstract: The legal copyrights of inventions and innovations, that is, Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) as under the World Trade Organisation (WTO) have now, emerged as the driving force behind the intellectual growth and business development. In fact it is even touted now that global economic growth will be dictated to by those holding the copyrights of the inventions. In this context the paper describes, what is copyright, what are its objectives, what does infringment of copyrights means to libraries. Paper also present the important of copyrights in the digital age and finally lists IFLA’s position on this subject.
