Abstract: Due to information revolution, digital libraries are developing all over the world to collect, store and communicate the information through electronic media. Digital technologies have revolutionized the information management activities in the academic libraries during the past few years developing the digital academic libraries. In the present age of information revolution and ever increasing demand for exact and consolidated information, the functions and old methods followed by traditional libraries are being replaced by new techniques and technologies. This paper discusses the various aspects of the conversion of in-house academic library material into electronic format, which leads to creation of digital academic library. Also the objectives of digitization have been correlated with the mission of the academic libraries.
