Abstract: This article deals with the definitions and types of of e-Learning, e-education with the need for it. The functions and the main issues of e-Learning are discussed with the changing scenario at present. The delivery methods with the design aspects and parameters are explained in detail. The four modules of e-Learning / online learning in a University environment has been explained with the key players for e-education viz. students, faculty, facilitators, support staff and administrators. The two modes of e-Learning have been discussed with the benefits. Some of the software’s used for e-education with few examples of the institutions / organizations using e-education for better prospects. The advantages and disadvantages of e-Learning with the requirements of standards have been explained with the efforts made by few organizations are given. It is envisaged that the future will be better for e-education.
