Abstract: Information Technology (IT) is the buzzword now-a days. It has brought out fundamental changes in functioning of libraries and the services they provide to the users. Today, in the age of Information Technology, we have the concept of ‘Using Information from Digital and Network Libraries’. For using information from digital libraries, we need speed creativity, ability to retain people and security. All these requirements can be met by Internet and an Intranet. It means that, today, the role and importance of these two buzzwords not only in libraries/organizations but for each human being is very high. Internet should reach to every man, woman and child. In my opinion, therefore, a new slogan should be coined as “Roti, Kapda, Makan aur Internet !”. This paper describes briefly Internet, Intranet, their differences, and their role and applications in an educational organization and particularly in digital libraries and network security.
