Abstract: Abstract The security of materials and information in a library is quite essential. This paper discusses the use of CCTV cameras and biometric methods for surveillance in libraries to safe guard its possession of books and information. This paper presents the various types of CCTV cameras, their functioning and uses. A brief discussion of biometric methods like fingerprint scanning, iris scanning, facial recognition, voice recognition and palm vein authentication is presented. Finally the author recommends that the libraries in India should initiate the implementation of biometric methods and surveillance of the libraries by using CCTV cameras.
