Abstract: This paper discusses problems associated with cataloguing, categorising heterogeneous resources on the WWW for retrieving precise information. By providing database approach to the web site design, these problems can be solved to some extent. Since the information available on the WWW is massive, the design is done for software in Biotechnology and Bioengineering. The need for software database and features of existing Bio related software databases are explained. The data about Bio software on the WWW is collected and arranged in a generalized standard format. This is loaded on to a MYSQL database and is accessed through PERL.
