The amount of available information online has increased exponentially with the rapid development of the World Wide Web. A lack of standardization and common vocabulary has continued to generate heterogeneity, which strongly hinders information exchange and communication. Ontologies, which capture the semantics of information from various sources and giving them a concise, uniform and declarative description, have gained significance due to the demands in academia and industry. This paper discusses ontology and its uses in semantic webs for digital libraries.en_US
