It also discusses about the objectives, functions, services of the University Libraries. Capacity building involves man-machine interfaces to enhance operating efficiency, skills of employee of an organization towards the achievement of organizational goals. In order to make employees satisfied and committed to their jobs in academic and research libraries, there is need for strong and effective motivation at the various levels, departments and sections of the library. The present study was undertaken with a view to know the role of training program of LIS Professionals in their library services. The present study is based on the opinion of LIS professional from Rabindra Library, Assam University, Silchar and various college libraries which are affiliated under Assam University, Silchar in Cachar District, Assam. For this purpose, survey method has been adopted by the investigators, which comprises of administration of questionnaire, observation of the participants, and interview of the LIS professionals for knowing their view towards training program. The self-designed questionnaire has been distributed amongst the randomly selected samples. The filled up questionnaires have been collected from the respondents for data analysis and interpretations. For data analysis percentage calculations have been made. Findings of this study shows that training is essential for LIS professionals for developing their skill by attending conferences, workshop, refresher course, etc. to cope up with the capacity to handle latest technology.Item Capacity-Building Through Digitization, Electronic Records Management And Other Means for Archives:Indian Scenari(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2014-09-25) Kumar, Mritunjay; Bansal, JiveshThis paper is an attempt to understand as to how digitization and electronic records management and related efforts have made effective changes in the working of Indian Archives and similar/ ancillary institutions dealing in traditional knowledge management and related task. In this regard, effort would be made to understand National Mission for Manuscripts (NMM) and National Archives of India (NAI) and their initiatives concerning digitization and e-records management in the recent years. Similar attempt are being made to understand the digitization and related efforts being made at Archival Cell, A.C. Joshi Library, Panjab University, Chandigarh as a case study of regional repository/university and how far it supports the national initiatives in this regard. Thus, overall, the focus would be to see and analyse capacity-building programmes in Indian archives.Item HR in Capacity Building of ODI Institute’s Library(INFLIBNET Centre, 2014-09-25) Kakati, ManishaOpen and Distance Learning (ODL) system of education is becoming popular and receiving importance day by day as the scope and network spreads. The libraries belong to these institutions have been playing a vital role in fulfillment of its objective. Libraries are considered indispensable in every part of higher education.With the expansion of ICT, it has faced challenges. Only a well-trained professional staff can manage and utilize it to the benefit of user community. It is the manpower along with ICT which can build the libraries of ODL system, be it within the walls or without wall, and make the ODL system a meaningful one and successful throughout the nation. This paper discusses about the libraries belong to open and distance learning institutions (ODL) along with the services they provide, usage of ICT, staff strength etc. for good handling and better utilization of ICT and make the library efficient and user oriented. Effective library support to distance learners is mandatory for qualitative delivery of instruction and learning.
