The encounter with new formats, new media, new information and new communication channels needs restructuring of present day library and information services and services. Information managers need to understand the scope and potentials of digital media and prepare themselves to adapt to the change. This article discusses digital information, its impact on scholarly communication and research.Item Digital Preservation(INFLIBNET Centre, 2002-02) Vijay Kiran, A; Ramesh Babu, BIt is said: “Everything new is old again” This article deals with digital materials, the factors that affect them. Explains the preservation strategies such as refreshing, migration, technology preservation and emulation. The physical storage conditions like temperature, Relative Humidity, light and other threats: technology obsolescence, insufficient resources and insufficient planning are discussed at length. It is suggested to have common Standards, policies, for acquisition, conversion, storage and maintenance of digital materials, Education and training of digital preservationists, sharing of the technological know how.
