    Application of Vector Based Information Access in Bibliographical Database

    Developing a bibliographical database is not an easy task. While developing it the designer must think about exchange of record, minimum consumption of memory, effective retrieval of the database content, etc. With these concepts in mine, the bibliographical database should be designed and provided mandatory attributes for capturing data. Most of the Information Retrieval Systems are based on keywords of the document and retrieve a list of documents in response to a user’s query. Then the user has to sequentially determine his/her relevant document. A keyword-based retrieval is a simple model that can encounter two major difficulties such as synonymy and polosemy problem. This paper introduces the application of vector based information retrieval technique in bibliographical database for effective retrieval.

    Digital Preservation: A Software Approach

    In today’s ever developing and rapid growing world, the national heritage site- the pride and identity of a country, seems to be in deteriorating state though various preservative measures are being taken up. What is important here is to understand which preservative method and technique will serve us best in this technological and computerized era. Since there is a continuous technological growth and advancement, the technological component does also undergo transformation on both software and hardware levels. One of the suitable preservation techniques available is the digitization using Xena software. This paper attempts to show how the particular software will help in preserving the national heritage in long run.

    Open Archives Initiatives Protocols for Metadata Harvesting & Z39.50 in Library Software: A Model

    The objective of library networking is to promote resource sharing and free flow of information. Rapid technological changes have brought a drastic change in the resource sharing activities, specially Open Archives Initiatives (OAI) model enables the dissemination of research output at international, national and regional levels thus removing the restrictions placed by the traditional scientific model. Z39.50 protocol has provided a common platform which help to develop a Union catalogue. These new developments have made resource sharing more practical. In such a scenario, the best approach is to focus on how software will make it possible for the library to utilize networked resources for the maximum benefit of their users. This paper presents a design of library software, which is interoperability in nature and support networking and exploitation of web resources apart from automating library operations.
