Digital Preservation with Special Reference to the Open Archival InformationSystem (OAIS) Reference Model: An Overview
(INFLIBNET Center, 2009-02-25) Jana, Sibsankar; Mondal, Mrinal Kanti; Marjit, Ujjal
Libraries are engaged in the creating and marinating digital libraries all over world. A digital library that deals with data those are born digital as well as those that have been digitized from their analogue form. So there is a need to preserve digital resources for future use. Since the nature of digital data or resource is intangible and it cannot see in necked eyes so there is a need to preserve and organized them in such a way that we can get easily access to them. Developing preservation process for digital resources will require the integration of new methods, policies, standards, and technologies. This paper aims to give an overview in digital preservation, highlights some strategy and standards efforts.

Linking Library Data: A Linked Data Based Approach
(INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2014-09-25) Sharma, Kumar; Marjit, Ujjal; Biswas, Utpal
In order to bring library resources into the web the data must be rendered into the underlying representation format provided by Semantic Web technology. In doing so library data have become a part of Linking Open Data (LOD) project, participating into a globally interlinked data hub. In this article, we present how Linked Data approach has been used to represent and publish library data into the Web of Data. Moreover, the library community can thus be influenced by the benefits provided by Linked Data. It avails linking and sharing information with external sources, data enrichment, and reusing the resources among libraries.

Mashups: An Emerging Content Aggregation Web2.0 Paradigm
(INFLIBNET Center, 2009-02-25) Marjit, Ujjal; Jana, Shibsankar
The Web evolves rapidly. Day by day & WWW is currently experiencing a revolutionary growth due to its increasing participative community software applications. This paper highlights an emerging application development paradigm on the WWW, called mashup. Which uses latest generation of WWW tools and services enable web users to generate web applications that combine content from multiple sources, and provide them as unique services by adding values that suit their situational needs. This type of web applications is referred to as a Mashup. As blogs have enabled anyone to become a publisher, mashups stimulate web development by allowing anyone to combine existing data to develop single interactive web application. Current applications of mashups include tracking of events such as crime, hurricanes, earthquakes, meta-search integration of data and media feeds, interactive games, and as an organizer for web resources in a single interface. The implications of this emerging web integration and structuring paradigm remains yet to be explored fully. This paper describes mashups from a number of angles, highlighting current developments while providing sufficient illustrations to indicate its potential implications and their whole status in programmable Web.The role of Mashups on the web are presented, and existing & open emerging tools that assist in Mashup development are introduced.

Ontology Based Knowledge Management Systems and Its Application to Semantic Digital Library Initiative
(INFLIBNET Centre, 2011-03-02) Marjit, Ujjal; Sarkar, Arup
The use of digital library in this era advances the speed of information access. In this regard the demand for the digitization of the paper based information into the digital format is evolving. Most of the time this requirements are fulfilled by developing digital library which are capable to hold and store a huge amount of digital data either separately or in archive. The present digital library system is facing the problem of incomplete/partial automation, resource sharing operation integration, interoperability due to heterogeneous data, information and knowledge for information discovery. Adding semantics to the digital library can alleviate the same. So, a proper Knowledge Management System based on Ontology is a key requirement. In this paper a conceptual framework is proposed for better Knowledge Management for the digital library using Ontologies. In addition to that this paper discusses about the necessity of constructing ontology based knowledge management in digital libraries using semantics.

Publishing MARC 21 Format for Bibliographic Data as Linked Data With Provenance
(INFLIBNET Centre3, 2013-03-23) Marjit, Ujjal; Sharma, Kumar; Biswas, Utpal
Publishing Bibliographic data as Linked Data into the Web of Data provides information that are rich in semantics and syntax. Linked Data approach allows machine to analyse the data without human intervention. Data becomes reusable and publicly revealed into the web. Such data are always shareable among different data sources. Data that are published into the Web of Data can be increased in size. In spite of having meaningful and structured data into the web, their metadata or provenance are available at a minimum rate. In order to provide the utility and the glimpse of the data, the enquiry such as, what a dataset will contribute, who published it, their access mechanisms and licensing information are essential for the data consumers. In this paper, we present an approach for publishing MARC 21 Format for Bibliographic data as Linked Data with Provenance. We believe that the provenance information will help data consumers, mainly in library domains, to determine the quality & uniformity of the bibliographic information.
