    ICT Facilities and Services at M. K. Tata Memorial Learning Centre forVisually Challenged

    Attempts have been made to highlight the State-of-the-Art ICT facilities and services made available at M.K. Tata Memorial Learning Resource Centre which was established in 2008 at Sir Dorabji Tata Memorial Library, TISS to keep pace with time and advances in information technology. The centre is comprising of more than 20 workstations with latest configurations along with 10 HP scanners. It provides access to Internet, Dspace Archive, Braille printer, instructional learning materials and ICT based information services. Special software like JAWS, Kurzweil, Magic Magnification, Zoom- Ex Instant Reader, Win Braille, OBR, Spell Well, Talking Teaching Type Pro have been procured in the centre. Special equipments like Prisma for low vision, SARA for instant text reading are also available in the centre.

    Institutional Repository of Jawaharlal Nehru University Library, New Delhi

    The JNU, New Delhi was started in 1969 and during the past thirty six years it has grown into a prestigious university of its kind in India today. Being a premier university in teaching and research programmes, it aimed to develop digital library for collecting the documents and manage networked information services for the benefits of faculty, students, research scholars and other academic community in their education and research. The University has more than thirty six centres, which comes under nine schools. Each year it publishes close to 1000 research papers and awards about 2312 degrees in various disciplines. To reveal the prestige of a university, Institutional Repository is the one and only way to make the whole world knowing the esteem of a university. With access to IR, the students will be able to find, read the literature reviews of their peers and global knowledge sharing is also possible. In this paper we discuss the future plans towards implementation of IR in JNU Central Library and also describe about some available IR software.

    Scholars’Lab: A Promising Academic Space For Accelerating Social Science Research

    Libraries of social science research institutions and universities striving much to offer a wide range of information and research support services to their scholars and faculty. But, an exclusive ‘scholars only’ space, is not a common sight. In this regard, this paper gives an overview of such an exclusive research space, which can be named as the ‘scholars’ lab. This also provides an outline of the ‘scholar’s lab’, its facilities, services, and softwares etc. Also, it recommends establishment of such a ‘scholars’ lab’ in every social science library.

    Virtual Library: An Overview

    Most of the Libraries today, offer a wide range of on-line services to their users. And, now, the internet and web technologies are not the new things to any academician hence, it is the time for a Library to be virtual and develop its on-line presence in order to further facilitate and enrich the educational processes. In this direction, Virtual Libraries provide a new way of serving the new generation users of the libraries. Virtual libraries are the new vision of libraries of the future. This paper provides an overview of a Virtual Library System. It narrates purpose, features, functions, design and development of a Virtual Library and Virtual Library Environment. Impact of ‘Virtual Library’ on ‘Lifelong Learning’ has also been emphasized. It also enumerates principles of development of Virtual Library Collection and advantages of Virtual Libraries. Notably, suggests and advocates for the Virtual Library of India to be hosted by the INFLIBNET Centre.
