    This paper introduces the concepts of Information Technology (IT) and its related fields. It defines the scope of Information management (IM). The paper reviews IT application sources/Indicators, which are essential in the context of modern library and information science services and precise library and information science management environment for socio-economic development. It also describes the role of information technology in effective storage, processing and retrieval in light of developmental trends in the field of information management. It discusses certain constraints in effective application of information technology for the management of information in the Indian Context. The constrains,such as the lack of availability and application of IT due to insufficient financial resources, reluctant manpower and ill-developed information infrastructure and other similar factors, come in the way of proper application of IT in the information management that serve as an indicator of socio- economic development which in turn affects the National Development.
