    Interoperability and Interconnectivity Issues in Multiple Information System : A Special Reference to Z39.50

    Information retrieval in digital era especially due to non-compatibility between different systems, disparity of interfaces may lead loss of information in information dissemination and affect the precision. Paper emphasized needs of standards to solve interoperability, interconnection issues that adversely affect the success of an Information Retrieval System. ANSI/NISO Z39.50 discussed elaborately with its application, usage, implementation, its relationship with TCP/IP, as well as Information Retrieval, user interface etc that were proved to be essential for successful Information Retrieval System.

    Web Content Management with Subject Gateway

    Internet is one of the valuable and probably most used information resources for the present days. There is hardly any topic on which information is not available on Internet. But the problem with it is automated indexing and poor recall and precision of retrieval. Tough in some cases, search formation are not formulated properly, still the performance of Internet or website is not satisfactory. Here, an approach of building subject base Internet resources is discussed under the heading of subject gateway. It may be a better tool for retrieving subject information in comparison of popular search engines. Different sides of ‘subject gateways’ are discussed to manage the growing web resources. In conclusion the role of information professionals in this regard is discussed.
