Cloud-based Services: Prospects for the University Libraries
    (INFLIBNET Centre, 2013-03-23) Choukimath, Puttaraj A; Agadi, K B; Koganuramath, Muttayya M
University libraries are set to build and manage their own data centres. In this data-model libraries would gain more control over the software applications and data stores. Cloud-based technologies are here to make this possible. This paper, discusses meaning, definition, and characteristics of cloudbased computing. It emphasises on IT infrastructure and highlights the potentialities of libraries in implementation of these technologies. It also gives brief introduction to the challenges posed by cloud-based library services. The objective of this paper is to investigate and design reference architecture to digital library systems with scalability using cloud computing. This paper intend to explore the possibilities with ‘cloud-based technologies’ as ‘must adoptable’, feasible prospects for future of university library systems in building highly scalable and robust information systems.

Digital Curation Strategies for Information Management in Higher Education Institutions
    (INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, 2016-11) Shivarama, J; V, Sheela; Deepak, A B; Agadi, K B
Libraries and archives have been the central institutions that not only house works of value but also focus their efforts for preservation of them for future reuse. The term preservation is thus not unheard of in the traditional library and archival environment where materials in paper, microform, photographic materials are preserved. Preservation involved an array of tools and methodologies developed to reduce the decay of traditional materials and to restore them. The preservation of traditional printed materials however has the advantage that the collections are relatively stable for at least decades if not centuries. The digital information, unfortunately affords no such luxury and are by their very nature ephemeral and fragile, with a lifespan that could be weeks or days if left to themselves. Thus, the digital preservation adds new sets of challenges for libraries and archives. Here we made an experiment on how to manage the information using the digital curation techniques in higher educational institutions.

Multi Stakeholder Synergies in Library Infrastructure Development: The Role of Government, Private Sector, and NGOs in Democratizing Access and Funding in India
(INFLIBNET Centre Gandhinagar, 2025-12-02) Ranjan, Vivek; K, Manoj Kumar; Agadi, K B
Every nation progressively plans for an unconditional pattern involving government, private, and NGO sectors to ensure democratic access to multiple resources. Funding is systematically arranged to energize IT infrastructure development. However, when it comes to development of libraries, there are multiple issues to attain sustainability and progressive development plan. This paper examines the evolving roles of the government, private sector, and nongovernmental organisations (NGOs) in promoting equitable access to library services and modernising library infrastructure in India. It draws on legislative frameworks, national policy documents, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, and flagship programmes such as the National Mission on Libraries (NML) and the National Digital Library of India (NDLI) to evaluate both achievements and persistent challenges in the sector. The findings reveal a fragmented policy environment, marked by uneven adoption of state legislation and the absence of a cohesive funding strategy. These gaps have historically led to chronic underinvestment and an overreliance on ad hoc financial support. Despite targeted interventions, rural communities have faced infrastructural deficits, limited digital access, and uneven service delivery. At the same time, the study highlights several innovative and community-led models such as CSR-funded rural libraries, mobile library services, inclusive formats like Braille, and collaborative platforms like Sugamya Pustakalaya, which demonstrate the potential for scalable and inclusive solutions. These initiatives underscore the critical importance of participatory governance, institutional capacity, and cross-sector collaboration in shaping an effective and sustainable library ecosystem. The paper argues that a unified national library policy backed by diversified funding streams, robust digital integration, and institutionalised partnerships is essential for ensuring equitable, resilient, and future-ready library services across India

Scholars’Lab: A Promising Academic Space For Accelerating Social Science Research
(INFLIBNET Centre Gandhinagar, 2014-09-25) Choukimath, Puttaraj A; Agadi, K B; Koganuramath, Muttayya
Libraries of social science research institutions and universities striving much to offer a wide range of information and research support services to their scholars and faculty. But, an exclusive ‘scholars only’ space, is not a common sight. In this regard, this paper gives an overview of such an exclusive research space, which can be named as the ‘scholars’ lab. This also provides an outline of the ‘scholar’s lab’, its facilities, services, and softwares etc. Also, it recommends establishment of such a ‘scholars’ lab’ in every social science library.
