My vision of library and information professionals in the emerging information society is that they would be required to combine the skills of traditional librarianship with those of a communicator, information analyst, web master, and net surfer “ _ Dasgupta. Recent developments like Internet and the emergence of digital libraries have forced to change the way the librarian functions at present. They have to think of ‘access’ rather than simply ‘possession’ of documents. His function is not to identify a document but to deliver the actual information to cater to the needs of the users. Internet is a tidal wave and that is the most talked about subject in library and information science field.en_US
