Abstract: Library and Information Science profession has undergone impressive and brisk change during the last three decades under the overpowering impact of ICT. The future of the library is governed by the new technological innovations in the area of storage, retrieval and dissemination of information and the future of the information profession is very much dependant on their adoption by the information professionals. The new role of the Library and Information Centre in the knowledge society is needed to be sloping consequently. It is our responsibility as information facilitators and managers not only to inculcate the society through the technologies i.e., available but also to recognize the problems that need to be solved. Every profession should have professional accountability and moral values to respond to the need of the hour of the community at the right time and in the right point of view. The changing role of information professionals thus, need continuing professional development, predominantly, in an academic set up like colleges and universities to take our students and teachers to the doorsteps of the 21st century.
