Abstract: This paper discusses the various aspects of the conversion of in-house library materials into electronic format, which leads toward the creation of digital library. Also describes the digitization initiatives that have taken place in India. Objectives of digitization have been correlated with the mission of university libraries. Deals with various image capturing and processing technologies and suitability for a university library. It tries to identify the areas to be covered under digital conversion program of in its first phase.
