Abstract: The early days of the WWW changed retrieval tools in many ways. Retrieving searching and filtering massive uncontrolled database of the Web pages presents new challenges. The role of traditional libraries has been changed by the introduction of Internet access. So the users now have access to more information than before; that they must rely on search engine to retrieve and rank the results of their searching. Thus this paper highlights the customer-based information retrieval through search engine by classifying the need of customer into five categories such as functional, hedonic, innovative, aesthetic and sign needs of customer.
