Abstract: Libraries have always had the ability to respond to the challenges of technology, from the printing press of the middle ages to the print explosion of the twentieth century, to the digital ‘print’ of today. Modern economic rationalism demands that libraries become more accountable for both the services they provide and the funds they expand. Such accountability requires libraries to investigate, analyze and, where necessary change the methods and processes they have traditionally undertaken to justify their very existence to funding bodies. Re-engineering is about changing to the way we do things. Re-engineering is reinventing the way one does business, by stepping back and examining values, goals, and the system processes used to meet these goals. Process redesign is often an outcome of this evaluation. The acquisition process is one prime process for re-engineering as it consists of a large number of easily identifiable routines which can be compartmentalized, and altered as required. This paper is case study of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University Library (DRBRAOUL) and its Acquisition Section and how to reengineer the Library Acquisitions. Abstract: Re-engineering is very popular modern management techniques. Application of re- engineering is present day need. Hence , present paper high lights how this techniques is applicable to college Library). Authors has emphasized on not only historical background of re- engineering but also background of studied library in brief and implementation of re- engineering in five phase manner i.e. activities to be re- engineered , selection of the re- engineering team , vision for the new improved processes and actions needed to implement the new process. Abstract: The introduction of new information and communication technologies, as well as the emergence and development of new techniques in information processing, storage, and dissemination have changed the role of all types of libraries in information dissemination. This has made libraries to supplement long-established services with online services to users, fulfilling any time and anywhere needs and expectations. The World Wide Web is a new powerful tool for reference librarians. Information which was once only available to large libraries with very high budgets is suddenly available to any library with Internet connections. Reference librarians themselves are participating in the electronic publication trade by creating Web pages and finding aids to assist both themselves and their users to locate information electronically on the World Wide Web. The web which poses a new challenge for librarians, offers major new tools and techniques to provide the powerful services. The present paper tries to focus new aspect of reference service. It also highlights the various efforts undertaken by different types of libraries in this direction. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/970 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: The purpose of the paper is to touch upon the basic principles and importance of re-engineering and its impact on quality management of libraries in some selected technical institutes of Assam in aspects of users’ satisfaction. Libraries have always had the ability to respond to the challenges of technology, from the printing press of the middle age to the print explosion of 20th century and to the digital ‘print’ of today. With the changing world ICT plays a dominant role in today’s library and information centers. But the academic libraries of Assam especially in technical institutions except few are lagging behind. Explains the status of re-engineering of some major libraries and their services lacuna. Suggests some remedial measures for improvement in the context of digital environment. The paper provides ideas how a quality system can be established through re-engineering of library setup and services. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/957 Files in this item: 1
