Abstract: The Web evolves rapidly. Day by day & WWW is currently experiencing a revolutionary growth due to its increasing participative community software applications. This paper highlights an emerging application development paradigm on the WWW, called mashup. Which uses latest generation of WWW tools and services enable web users to generate web applications that combine content from multiple sources, and provide them as unique services by adding values that suit their situational needs. This type of web applications is referred to as a Mashup. As blogs have enabled anyone to become a publisher, mashups stimulate web development by allowing anyone to combine existing data to develop single interactive web application. Current applications of mashups include tracking of events such as crime, hurricanes, earthquakes, meta-search integration of data and media feeds, interactive games, and as an organizer for web resources in a single interface. The implications of this emerging web integration and structuring paradigm remains yet to be explored fully. This paper describes mashups from a number of angles, highlighting current developments while providing sufficient illustrations to indicate its potential implications and their whole status in programmable Web.The role of Mashups on the web are presented, and existing & open emerging tools that assist in Mashup development are introduced. Abstract: The World Wide Web is relying on many technologies to build rich interfaces and applications which enable enhanced interactions and social networking. With the emergence of Web 2.0 technologies, it has become easy to seek information interactively and making appointments effectively. Whilst the underlying technologies in Web 2.0 applications like JavaScript, XML, ASP.Net, PHP/Perl, MySQL, etc., are not new, the creative combination of these technologies gave the web a live and full interactivity for dealing with data. AJAX applications have received wide-spread attention as a new way to develop highly interactive web applications. Mashups enables web users to generate web applications that combine content from multiple sources, and provide them as unique services that suit their information needs. This paper explores the interactive web technologies such as AJAX, Mashups, Web Feed, RSS, Atom, Enterprise 2.0 and Web 3.0. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1049 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: In the Web 2.0 environment, users are empowered to collaborate and share information. This has made the Web more participatory in nature thereby increasing the content creation at a rapid pace. With this, the ever challenging problem of categorizing content over the Web has increased tremendously. To combat this, Web 2.0 has one feature known as “Folksonomy”. This allows users to attach tags to the content so that they can use these tags to retrieve the content in the future. Folksonomy has pros & cons compared to traditional subject indexing. This paper describes the fundamental problems inherited to Folksonomy with a case study of user tagging in Social Question & Answer Platform used within Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). Abstract: Scholarly communication is in turmoil. It is not clear how scholarly publishers will cope with change or if journals will even survive. That’s why it is important to provide some insight into scholarly publishing now and in the future. The key issues confronting scholarly publishing include open access (OA), peer review, institutional repositories, multiple versions of articles, increasing author awareness of copyright issues, archiving and preserving, and faster communication tools such as blogs, Web sites, RSS feeds, and podcasts. The newer communication tools speed up communication and bypass journals. In this environment, scholars may communicate in new ways and journals may have a different role from the past, but documents of record are still essential to the business. Abstract: E-print archives (electronic preprints) have become the first choice of many researchers for current research, breaking scientific discoveries, and keeping up with colleagues (and competitors) at other institutions. The citations being received to e-prints are evidences of the above stated importance of the archives. Impact Factor and Immediacy Index devised by Thomson Scientific Inc. (formerly Institute for Scientific Information (ISI), Philadelphia) are two parameters based on citations to evaluate traditional journals. These parameters for nearly 6000 scientific journals from all over the world are published yearly as Journal Citation Reports (JCR). As a case study, the present work has made an endeavour to calculate impact factors and immediacy indices of archives uploaded in the Physics categories of arXiv.org of Cornell University, USA by treating them as individual journals. The Physics e-prints uploaded in arXiv.org are classified into twelve sub-categories: viz. AstroPhysics (astro-ph); Condensed Matter (cond-mat); General Relativity and Quantum Cosmology (gr-qc); High Energy Physics - Experiment (hep-ex); High Energy Physics - Lattice (hep-lat); High Energy Physics - Phenomenology (hep-ph); High Energy Physics - Theory (hep-th); Mathematical Physics (math-ph); Nuclear Experiment (nucl-ex); Nuclear Theory (nucl-th); General Physics (Physics); and Quantum Physics (quant-ph). Calculated impact factors and immediacy indices reveal that Nuclear Experiment has made good impact among the categories and followed by High-Energy Physics classes of arXiv.org (High Energy Physics – Theory; High Energy Physics – Lattice; High Energy Physics – Experiment; and High Energy Physics - Phenomenology). The citation trackers like Scopus and web-tools like ‘Google-Scholar’, ‘Citebase’, ‘Citeseer’ etc. will further strengthen the concluded impact of the archives. Abstract: Currently, in Taiwan there is no demonstrable solution for access management to the many heterogeneous electronic resources that academic and university libraries provide for users, such as the full texts of electronic journals and books, electronic databases, among many others. Shibboleth has been developed in U.S.A. and the United Kingdom and has become an emerging solution to the access management of electronic resources in a growing number of developed countries. Our experience in starting a virtual federation by setting up an Identity Provider (IdP) at Academia Sinica and a Service Provider (SP) at the Chinese Geoscience Union (CGU), Taipei, a society which publishes a SCI journal entitled “Terrestrial, Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences”, as well as request Shibbolethbased service from some participating Shibboleth publishers like Elsevier, Springer and Thomson ISI, can provide valuable experiences to any library or organization wanting to start a Shibboleth federated access management for reference.
