Abstract: 21st century web savvy people believe that one day everything ever created by humans will be available online. Call it the myth or a truth it is the future of Digital Libraries. Because there is unlimited real estate in cyberspace and because media can be digitized, we can fill cyberspace with all human knowledge and give everyone access to it. Information in all forms is recognized as a very valuable and powerful resource, forcing information management disciplines to become highly professional and technologically updated. All information in any recorded format can be conveyed in one common format—digital. This paints the vision of a sweeping and awesome potential of “Paperless Society”. This paper is intended to describe the technology trends in digital libraries, discuss key issues involved in digital library implementation, and provide some new future trends of digital library. The paper takes up the future concepts like Digital Classrooms, Digital Talking Books, Verbal Society, Paperless Society and Untethered Communication. Abstract: The manpower is very important aspect in implementing an automated system/computerisation in the library and establishing a digital library for it. The librarian and other library staff play an important role in the process of establishing digital library, networking of digital libraries for information sharing. During the implementation of extending digital library activities, librarian should ensure a proper coordination of the activities in the library. Library professionals should be aware of handling modern technology and electronic gadgets. Therefore technology to awareness of library professionals and their participation in the library automation, networking and digitisation project is important for successful installation of modern system or in organising IT based digital library services. It is equally important that library professionals & staff should have computer knowledge and professional experience. Their involvement in the development of modern digital system is essential for successful implementation. The present paper highlights the concept of manpower planning, definition of human resource development, need of human resource and manpower planning for library activities, continuing education programme (CEP) for LIS professionals, role of various national level library organisations (both Government and associations) for imparting IT training for running modern libraries in network and digital environment. It also highlights the importance of manpower planning and need of trained workforce for implementing the computerised library and information services for the end users. The status of various categories of library professionals, other administrative staff working in the library, the requirement of IT training for them, role of various agencies imparting training to the LIS professionals & other staff are described in brief. Abstract: This paper trying to find out the present state of the automation and the application of IT in the light of the problem and prospects of college libraries of rural area of Bankura Subdivision under the District of Bankura, West Bengal. It is suppose that the users of academic community start the library access from their college education. Abstract: This study attempts to find out the familiarity, popularity and utility of E-journals to the science scholars of Visva-Bharati, a central University. In view of this the paper tries to highlight the present position of Visva-Bharati University Library, UGC-Infonet E-journals consortium approach on the one side and on the other side the thinking and satisfaction of the science scholars about the using ejournals to their respective research area. Finally, on the basis of the findings follows the data analysis and interpretation which are collected through the questionnaire cum interview method, the paper provide some suggestion for the uplift of the present e-journal status of the library of this University as a whole. Abstract: College libraries have significant role in preparation of dynamic future leaders by offering students lucrative services so that users can learn the process of how to enter methods of higher research oriented studies gradually. To do so professional library manpower is a great concern. This study is an attempt to identify the present status of manpower pattern along with providing services of college libraries at capital city Dhaka, Bangladesh and recommended some suggestions regarding the development of library manpower structure. The Study based on primary as well as secondary information and data has been collected adapting questionnaire and interview method. Abstract: The paper identifies the changes taking place in the Higher Education and gives a brief overview of the LIS Education, its past happenings, and its present status. It briefly spells out the changing trends in the LIS curriculum, and the varied views expressed by renowned professionals regarding the profession vis-à-vis professionals. Further, the article emphasizes the role of NAAC as a positive indicator in boosting the image of academic libraries, and its share in the reaccreditation cycle. It further explains the changing job profiles and competencies of the LIS profession, and highlights the efforts initiated by the Western countries in reorienting the syllabi of LIS and enumerates examples of their Indian counterparts. The paper puts forth certain basic considerations, the various problem areas and highlights the need to think beyond the curriculum, for a safe sustenance of LIS professionals. Abstract: The paper highlights about the importance of total quality management in libraries. It is an view that the condition which challenged in libraries of Total Quality Management are very much prevalent here. It is not, however, clear if library managers are effecting the necessary changes to satisfy their clients. In the face of these challenges it is now time for libraries to exhibit that they are valuable to the continued survival and sustenance of their organizations. This can be done best by activity management. Therefore, it is a “system of continuous improvement employing participative management centered on the needs of customers”. Key components of TQM are employee involvement and training, problem solving teams, statistical methods, long term goals and thinking and recognition that the system, not people produces inefficiencies. Abstract: The INFLIBNET Centre has SOUL software developed for the automation and management of the Indian academic libraries, which has presence across the country in around 1500 libraries. INFLIBNET Centre being a nodal agency for Indian universities and keeping in view the requirement of the modernization of the their libraries with ICT facilities, Centre has developed this software and made available to the libraries in the nominal cost. With the development of the technology and the requirement changes of the library with the technology, it was due for the INFLIBNET Centre to make some necessary changes with the SOUL software. This paper introduces the new catalogue module of the SOUL software with the very new features such as MARC21, Unicode and MARCXML etc abreast with the new applications of the ICT. The Centre happily announces the new name of the SOUL software from the “Software for University Libraries” to the “Software for Library Automation and Management”. Abstract: This paper describes the use of E-Journals and E-Databases (subscribed by UGC-InfoNet consortium) by the users of Aligarh Muslim University. The questionnaire supplemented with interview schedule was used to solicit the opinions of the user group. Nearly 325 responses were gathered and the results are analyzed and presented here with. Besides extensively covering the use of E-journals and E-databases, the paper also examines the utilization and satisfaction levels of users with respect to E-Journals /E-Databases. Use of internet and different search engines as an alternative to the low usage of UGC InfoNet is presented. Abstract: Electronic Information Sources are becoming more and more popular since they provide multimedia information, full-text searching, reference linking and flexibility in searching and browsing. The purpose of this study was to determine how academic community in various professional colleges uses the electronic information sources for work-related purposes. A total of 300 survey returns indicate that students and faculty use the electronic information in support of their study and teaching. Although majority of students and faulty generally feel that the electronic information sources provide faster and reliable information still they prefer to use print as well as electronic information sources.
