Author: Lahkar, Narendra; Deka, Sanjib K
Abstract: Study on Web search services have reported that about 90% of Web searchers using simple queries and only 10% use advanced query operators. In this study, three search engines, Google, Yahoo and MSN, are compared in the areas of coverage and duplication in terms of use of Query Operators. Google is found at the top in terms of coverage, as compared with the other two search engines, i.e. MSN Search and Yahoo!. Analysis shows that there is a significant change in coverage when using query operators in all the three search engines. It is found that correct use of query operators would increase the effectiveness of web searching.
