Abstract: Library computer network security faces many challenges. Library network security must be achieved without any compromise. This paper presents few important guidelines that may help tremendously in improving the secure working of the library computer network. Attempts are being made worldwide with regard to the library network security so as to achieve a very good library network setup. A good library network system should be able to meet three major objectives, namely, data availability, confidentiality, and data integrity. This paper discusses the objectives, plans and tips for library computer network security. Description: This is only an Abstract URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/247 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: 21 st century is marked by spectacular and unprecedented developments in the field of telecommunication. The popularity of this field is gaining momentum, as it is faster, cost-effective and more efficient in resource sharing than any other communication media. Networks are the basis of telecommunication technology. The paper flashes on various aspects of network security and requirement of having sound security policy. The topic of network security policy is dealt with in detail, which is followed by the findings of the survey carried out by the authors. Some suggestions for developing security policy are given with the objective of helping the Library and Information Science professionals. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/211 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: Libraries and information centers are changing rapidly towards digitization. Now a days a stand-alone computer is of no use. It must be on network to utilize the resources. In the process of computer communication and data transmission the issue of network security arises. In this paper we try to the explain the meaning of network security, possible attacks, threats upon it and various approaches used to achieve this security. Abstract: Information Technology (IT) is the buzzword now-a days. It has brought out fundamental changes in functioning of libraries and the services they provide to the users. Today, in the age of Information Technology, we have the concept of ‘Using Information from Digital and Network Libraries’. For using information from digital libraries, we need speed creativity, ability to retain people and security. All these requirements can be met by Internet and an Intranet. It means that, today, the role and importance of these two buzzwords not only in libraries/organizations but for each human being is very high. Internet should reach to every man, woman and child. In my opinion, therefore, a new slogan should be coined as “Roti, Kapda, Makan aur Internet !”. This paper describes briefly Internet, Intranet, their differences, and their role and applications in an educational organization and particularly in digital libraries and network security. Abstract: The primary goal of a library is to provide access to information resources to the users. However, as libraries move from paper to electronic medium, providing access to resources over a network safety has become very complicated. Security of assets or resources in a library network should be achieved without any compromise. But, if users are not protected from easy and unauthorized access to the library network the stored information may be at risk. So, the network must be protected by creating some security policies. Libraries will be able to protect their resources by making sure that users will use only those resources for which they have been granted access. The paper describes how to assist the library network professionals in the process of users’ security management. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/215 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: Today the wireless network is mainly used for voice communication, where, voice mail is the most popular value-added service. WAP has added a new dimension to the use of mobile phones through the introduction of new data-oriented mass-market services. In this paper we try to present the functioning, uses, limitations and security associated with WAP. WAP is the future of the wired LAN/MAN and it is gaining popularity due to its ease of use, simplicity and efficiency. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/209 Files in this item: 1
