Abstract: Content is in essence, any type or 'unit' of digital information that is used to populate a page. It can be text, images, graphics, video, sound etc - or in other words - anything that is likely to be published across an inter-, intra- and/or extranet. Content Management is effectively the management of the content, by combining rules, process and workflows in such a way that centralised webmasters and decentralised web authors/editors can create, edit, mange and publish all the content of a web page in accordance with a given framework or requirements. This paper tries to focus on the concept of content management and its manifestation, necessary tools for content management and recent trends. Abstract: Info Bridge Abstracts is an in house Journal of Technical Information Centre, R AND DE(E), Pune developed using the Internet / Intranet Technology, this information product provides abstracts to the Scientists and Engineers of the Establishment. A novel way of abstracting by the subject expert scientist and engineer of the establishment is implemented which is possible using the Internet / Intranet technology. Scientist and engineers abstract the journal and feed the abstracts without visiting the library accessing their own Intranet terminals. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/29 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: Internet is a valuable information resource, but it also contains lot of information, which is incomplete, out-of-date, or inaccurate. Author considers the importance of standards and contents of sites on the World Wide Web, specifically in Indian context, a field where scope, coverage and validity of information is vital for both academic and research community. An attempt has been made to identify scope and policy for evaluating Internet resources. The criteria, which are to be taken into consideration while evaluating the Internet resources, including authority, accessibility, arrangement, currency, response time, stability, target audience, accuracy, coverage, completeness and style are discussed. An effort has been made to evaluate and catalog few Newsletters and Databases, which are freely available on the Web. The evaluation of the quality of information available on the Internet could require a large amount of human effort. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/33 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: The Internet is beginning to be seen as a serious, useful source of information, over the past few years. There is significant interest among users to find relevant Internet information, of relevance to their day-to-day tasks. Libraries are finding it necessary to take proactive action in identifying, evaluating and reporting relevant Internet resources to their users. As the number of relevant Internet resources increase, libraries need to develop adequate solutions to manage access to these resources. Libraries have followed different, often ad-hoc, approaches in providing such solutions. We propose a databasedriven, web-based Internet Resource Catalogue Manager as a general-purpose solution, based on international standards. We describe the design factors one has to consider in developing such a system and a prototype package we have developed, called IRCAT-M. It is Web-based system, developed for Windows-based back-end server. It facilitates setting up and managing a database of Internet resources and provides web-based content management, search and browse interface. We discuss the design features in detail, implementation considerations, operational features and further work to be carried out. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/34 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: University libraries have vast store of information in various forms. These sources of information can be accessed through Internet from any corner of the world. But Indian University libraries are lagging behind in this direction. But they can not afford to remain isolated form the world of information. There is a need to cat up with modern trends, which is possible only through digitization of libraries. The present paper tries to analyse the present scenario of Indian University libraries and made an attempt to propose digital libraries in Indian Universities. The proposed development of Digital University libraries have been suggested in three phases .Phase I: Acquiring Materials in Digital form; Phase II.: Digitization of Thesis, Dissertations, Manuscripts and Rare Books. Phase III: digitization of books and Journals . Lastly author has suggested that INFLIBNET which has taken up automation and networking of university libraries in India should extend its programmes to digitization of university libraries. Abstract: Every library in present day is going to include certain forms of electronic information resources especially for researchers. Since research needs nascent information to keep abreast of latest developments in concerned areas of interest, the paper based information resources are no more sufficient to meet their needs. Hence, the question of electronic information resources Is important. The paper discusses the emerging role of different forms of electronic information resources that modern libraries are striving to acquire primarily for research. Abstract: New Digital media emergence in ever-faster technology development cycles. The volume of data in digital format outstrips that in hard copy records. The paradigm shift in storage and retrieval of digitized data has influenced academic, research and scholarly communication. The encounter with new formats, new media, new information and new communication channels needs restructuring of present day library and information services and services. Information managers need to understand the scope and potentials of digital media and prepare themselves to adapt to the change. This article discusses digital information, its impact on scholarly communication and research. Description: This is only an Abstract URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/63 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: It is said: “Everything new is old again” This article deals with digital materials, the factors that affect them. Explains the preservation strategies such as refreshing, migration, technology preservation and emulation. The physical storage conditions like temperature, Relative Humidity, light and other threats: technology obsolescence, insufficient resources and insufficient planning are discussed at length. It is suggested to have common Standards, policies, for acquisition, conversion, storage and maintenance of digital materials, Education and training of digital preservationists, sharing of the technological know how. Finally, it concludes that in the digital environment nothing is static, rather it is dynamic. Description: This is only an Abstract URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/78 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: Internet is an enormous collection of resources. You can find information about several subjects. Thus some paper consider it as a huge library. But the difficult part is to start searching. Unlike libraries, there is no single catalogue in which you can identify or retrieve the item you are looking for. Evolution of tools to find and access graphically rich multimedia components as well as textual data thereby freeing from restrictions of FTP archives made Web more popular. These tools made it possible to find and access this richness. Finding the Web documents ( Web "pages" or "sites") you want can be easy or seem impossibly difficult. This is mainly because of the size of the WWW, currently estimated to contain 3 billion documents. It is also because the WWW is not indexed with any standard vocabulary. Unlike a library's catalogs, in which can use standardized subject headings to find books in most large, in Web searching you are always guessing what words will be in the pages you want to find or guessing what subject terms were chosen by someone to organize a web page or site covering a specific topic.
