Abstract: Usage of digital media has witnessed a tremendous growth during the last decades, as a result of their notable benefits in efficient storage, ease of manipulation and transmission. However these features make digital media vulnerable to copyright infringement, tampering and unauthorized distribution. The access provisions and security or protection of digital resources has received significant attention within the digital media community, and a number of techniques in this respect have been evolved. In this paper we have discussed some of the reasons for attacking the digital resources; authentication, authorization, data hiding techniques for copyright protection and also some relevant topics of research results. Abstract: The article deals with various aspects of digital resources such as selection, acquisition, legal aspects of purchasing, such as licensing agreements, archiving or preservation.Today the availability of digital resources is growing faster which have made significant impact not only on the traditional acquisition policy but also on the preservation and weeding out policy. Due to proliferation of digital resources, it is important that they should be preserved for long-term access. The article points out necessity of sound acquisition policy and the preservation aspects. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/92 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: Digital resources are a comparatively new category of information materials in Indian libraries.Although in many ways managing digital resources is similar to handling other resources, thereare significant differences. One major difference lies in the fact that libraries are also increasingly getting involved in the very creation of digital resources.Digital resources can broadly be grouped into two categories – those that are originally created and distributed in digital format and those that are originally created in another format and are later converted into a digital format through a process generally referred to as digitization. Several organizations – libraries, governments, research institutions, and commercial organizations - at local, regional, national and international levels are involved on digitization activities. This paper begins with an understanding of digitization - the meaning and the processes – and then seeks to look at the issues involved in the digitization process from the perspective of libraries. As such, the focus is greater on the digitization of printed materials, rather than objects or sound, film or video recordings. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/79 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: The unique knowledge base for the profession of pharmacy is the body of drug information that the pharmacists use to define, monitor and modify the drug therapy of the patients that he or she serves. Digital resources offer such possibility and possess advantages over traditional sources with respect to access of information. One of the greatest benefit of digital resources is that, users can access the resources themselves. The focus of this paper is on the management of digital resources. Response to specific questions relating to pharmaceutical practices, the growth of pharmaceutical information and the use of Information Technology for managing digital sources are some of the facets dealt in detail. Pharmaceutical Digital Resources in the form of CD-ROMs and Web sites and their contents are detailed for information and use. Finally, an emphasis has been made for acquiring and familiarising Information Technology related techniques for effective use of pharmaceutical information. Singh, Jagtar (INFLIBNET Centre, March NaN, 2001)[more][less]
Abstract: Declining library budgets, growing user expectations, technological innovations, and the globaization of information have forced the library and information (LI) professionals to share their precious resources via networks. As a response to these developments, there is a transition from stand alone libraries to library and information networks, infomediaries to infoliterate end-users, and print-based publications to digital documents. The professional competencies are falling short in managing access to the web-based digital documents. In this context, an effort has been made in this paper to raise a few pertinent issues and discuss the implications of the web-based digital documents for the LI profession. Abstract: In changing perspective of digital resources, there is drastic change in the reference tools also. In the light of this change, need for switching from traditional form of reference service to digital form of reference service has been envisaged in this paper. Comp uterisation of reference section is an activity to convert existing reference section into electronic based media. This paper puts emphasis on the automation of reference section to ensure better service with high speed. Prerequisite for implementing automation activity in the reference section has been discussed. Description: This is only an Abstract URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/113 Files in this item: 1
