Abstract: Interoperability is a key issue for resource discovery in a library consortia environment. Interoperability is a concept that addresses the extend to which different types of computers, networks, operating systems and applications work together effectively to exchange information in a useful and meaningful manner. The technology enabled library consortia environment is heterogeneous, it hosts many different technologies, various data, multiple applications and other networked resources. There are several emerging standards, which have been developed to facilitate the interchange of data in a distributed environment. Such standards make it possible to perform seamless searches across several distributed resources, which have been implemented on different platforms. Z39.50 standard is becoming an important strategic tool for libraries and other information organizations. The use of Z39.50 can enhance resource sharing by providing a single interface to search multiple information resources. This paper discusses about the z39.50 standard, various components of z39.50 system and its applications in the library consortia environment. Abstract: Introduces need for WLAN due to cabling faults and costly management of cables. WLAN use Infrared and Radio Frequency technologies. Gives benefits of WLAN. Gives an account of Data Transmission in WLAN and use of 2.4 GHz for WLAN allotted for International Radio Frequency Allocation. Gives brief account of two RF technologies-Spread Spectrum and low power Narrow Band used in various RF technologies. Gives in brief an account of IrDA, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, UWB, HomeRF, SWAP and Zigbee technologies presently in use for WLAN. Study kept an eye for various IR/RF based notebooks and computer peripherals available in India and US market provides salient features and price of these. Concludes with benefits of WLAN and library applications by undoing of what has been done in last few decades-laying cables in LAN. Provides eight references and 05 websites for further study. Abstract: Recently the idea of the digital library has moved to the forefront of discussion and research. Digital libraries are those libraries, which have number of machine-readable publications and facilities for remote access to several databases. Their aim is to provide instant access to digitized information and consists of variety of information sources-paper to paperless forms including multimedia. The purpose of this paper is to describe how the information professionals can manage the digital library in the changing environment. It describes how an integrated approach of information technology, infrastructure and human resource management is useful in supporting the fruitful utilization of digital library by the users and enhances their satisfaction. Finally, it highlights the issues of ethical concerns in the digital environment. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/331 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: XML based portals are specifically delineated subsets of enterprise portal technologies that provide inherent XML based data exchange and interface capabilities to access information. Portals act as information distribution hubs, providing access to the XML wrapped metadata. This paper analyzes the impact of XML on Portal Application Integration (PAI) architecture and portal systems as a whole. It also described the XML in databases and content management. Finally highlighted the solutions, search functionality and future of portals for accessing information. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/373 Files in this item: 1
