Abstract:

Electronic sources play a vital and viable role to cater to the needs of research scholars in the process of advancement of society in present environment. The prime function of any library is to provide efficient services to its users. This paper describes an analytical study of electronic sources and services provided to users with special reference to research scholars of VNIT library, Nagpur. The objective of this article is to study the different factors such as information, sources, services, adequate collection, various channels of information and the constraints faced by the research scholars in using or searching information through electronic sources.. The author adopted questionnaire survey and statistical analysis of data by applying simple percentage and chi-square test. The finding of the study is that research scholars access information through various electronic sources and services to keep pace with the developments taking place in the scientific world.

Abstract:

An attempt has been made in the present study to evaluate the attitudes of faculty members, research scholars and PG students towards the adequacy of infrastructure, resources and quality of IT based services rendered in the university libraries of Karnataka State. In this study, the mode of collection of data, its presentation, analysis, and interpretation is also presented. The data for this study has been collected through two different sets of questionnaires. To make an evaluation of IT based services, it is important to know the views of both the receivers(users) and the providers(facilitators) of services – namely the users and the librarians. Often the providers’/facilitators’ views and opinions are conspicuous, and attempts are made to bring their view points to the surface, hence, this study has distinctly attempted to involve the university librarians as facilitators of information services. The other questionnaire is obviously administered to users who are at the receivers’ end.

Abstract:

Against the backdrop of the electronic age, new organizational structures are emerging. In order to be more efficient, effective and responsive organizations give prominence to the use of networks and computer based information systems. Likewise a data warehouse, a database system that is separate from the organizations online transaction processing system. Data mining helps in discovering meaningful new corrections, patterns and trends by shifting through, large repositories, using pattern recognition technologies as well as statistical and mathematical techniques. Finally it is concluded that there is due need to materialize the future technologies to guide the future generations in a most effective way of Library Management.

Therefore the costly and complicated technologies should be procured and established in a planned manner.
