Abstract: In early days people were communicating orally with one another, offering their perspectives on the world and sharing their passions. By lowering the barriers to publishing, the web can make those communications, whether representing individuals or their organizations, more powerful than ever before, but that require the right tools, metaphors and platforms. Through a gradual process of evolution and technology development, the communications has finally found a native online form through which to express themselves: a new form of web site called the weblog. Abstract: Digital learning in developed countries provides the learners with an interactive mode in a successful way, but in the case of developing countries such as India access to computer is limited to a few elite urban areas. Erratic power interruption, unaffordable investment cost for a normal citizen and obsolete software are some of the bottlenecks preventing for popularization of the eEducation. Although India tops the global list of software experts including teaching, their expertise could not be optimally utilized for the spread of eEducation due to the above-mentioned shortcomings. eEducation is about bringing education to people instead of taking people to education. It includes delivery of subject courses and training via electronic media. This paper addresses the important aspects and merits of eEducation through distance mode at an affordable cost for developing countries such as India. Abstract: Data mining automatically and exhaustively explores very large datasets, consequently uncovering otherwise hidden relationships among data. This technology has been successfully applied in science, health, marketing and finance to aid new discoveries and strengthen markets. In addition, data mining techniques are being applied to discover and organize information from the Web. Unfortunately these advancements in data storage and distribution technology have not been accompanied by respective research in data retrieval technology for a long time. To put it in short: we are now being flooded with data, yet we are starving for knowledge. This need has created an entirely new approach to data processing - the data mining, which concentrates on finding important trends and meta-information in huge amounts of raw data. In this paper the main concepts of data mining and automatic knowledge discovery in databases are presented (clustering, finding association rules, categorisation, statistical analysis). Abstract: Media libraries hold collections of print, celluloid and digital media. They are emerging as a result of advancements in information technology. This study is an attempt to assess the current state of IT application in the media libraries of Delhi being headquarter of about all educational media organizations and their networks of the country. An assessment is made on the basis of the availability of computer hardware, software, operating system, databases of holdings and online connectivity. It reveals that most of the libraries do not follow uniform standards for management and utilization of their collections. It is suggested to develop IT infrastructure for them in a phased manner by procurement of hardware, software, training of personnel and achieving online connectivity. Abstract: An attempt has been made in the present study to evaluate the attitudes of faculty members, research scholars and PG students towards the adequacy of infrastructure, resources and quality of IT based services rendered in the university libraries of Karnataka State. In this study, the mode of collection of data, its presentation, analysis, and interpretation is also presented. The data for this study has been collected through two different sets of questionnaires. To make an evaluation of IT based services, it is important to know the views of both the receivers(users) and the providers(facilitators) of services – namely the users and the librarians. Often the providers’/facilitators’ views and opinions are conspicuous, and attempts are made to bring their view points to the surface, hence, this study has distinctly attempted to involve the university librarians as facilitators of information services. The other questionnaire is obviously administered to users who are at the receivers’ end. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/316 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: Interoperability refers to the ability of a Digital Library to work cooperatively with other Digital Libraries in an attempt to provide higher quality services to users. There are many approaches to achieve some degree of interoperability and one such approach involves the creation and use of Open Archives. The OAI is an initiative to develop and promote interoperability standards that aim to facilitate the efficient dissemination of content. The OAI Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH) provides an application-independent interoperability framework based on metadata harvesting. OAI-PMH enables automated distribution of any kind of metadata, which may be aggregated into searchable databases by “harvesting” systems. It has reached version 2.0, intended for stable, production services. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/352 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: Internet is one of the valuable and probably most used information resources for the present days. There is hardly any topic on which information is not available on Internet. But the problem with it is automated indexing and poor recall and precision of retrieval. Tough in some cases, search formation are not formulated properly, still the performance of Internet or website is not satisfactory. Here, an approach of building subject base Internet resources is discussed under the heading of subject gateway. It may be a better tool for retrieving subject information in comparison of popular search engines. Different sides of ‘subject gateways’ are discussed to manage the growing web resources. In conclusion the role of information professionals in this regard is discussed. Description: This is only an Abstract URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/398 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: With the forging and making operational consortia subscription of E resources, beginning with journals, by various Academic and Government R and D organizations in the country, there is an immediate need to formulate standard metrics for the analysis of the usage of such resources. In the subsequent phase the outcomes of the analysis can be co-related against various parameters to develop performance measures as relevant to the consortium members. These performance measures can then be used to benchmark against the ‘leaders’ and action item for improving the average usage across the consortium. Ultimately translating into a justifiable ROI – not necessarily in money terms. Unlike in the physical subscription, such measurements and analysis is an intrinsic benefit in E subscription and must be fully utilized. This paper will generally discuss the utility of metrics , prevailing practices of a few E content providers and lay down broad parameters to serve as a basis for evolving a standard set of E metrics. Abstract: The library environment is currently undergoing a rapid and dynamic revolution leading to new generation of libraries with an emphasis on e-resources. On one side, there is an increasing demand for good library collection in terms of large amount of data/information and on the other hand, the publishing media is striving hard to support this demand at lightning speed by way of e-publication as well as online access. As a result, a large number of e-resources are published on all subject areas. Therefore, libraries need to adopt electronics media for its collection developments in a better way to fulfill the requirements of users. J R D Tata Memorial Library at the Indian Institute of Science (I.I.Sc), Bangalore with their vision has brought out a policy and adopted a strategic plan for collection development of electronic resources. This paper describes in detail, the steps taken by the library for a comprehensive e-resources access package model so that the researchers at I.I.Sc. Reap the maximum benefits by giving access to reasonable level to meet their information requirements for academic and research activities. This paper also deals with issues like social and Intellectual Property Rights apart from user requirements /satisfaction. Framework and models have been discussed about change in the media of collection development and its management. The success and reality of access to e-resources/ digital information has also been narrated in respect of INDEST consortia and other type of subscriptions.
