Abstract: The paper intends to focus on the preservation of digital resources and challenges, scope of the problem, methods of preservation. Preservation constitutes one leg of a tripod that supports informational institutions such as libraries and other leg being access and the development and management of corrections. Without preservation, access becomes impossible and collections will delay and disintegrate. Digital preservation means the planning, resource allocation and application of preservation methods and technologies necessary to ensure that digital information of continuing value remain accessible and usable. The purpose of preservation is to ensure protection of information of enduring value for access by present and future generation. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/344 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: Developing preservation strategies for photographic materials require specific expertise on storage, environment, package materials and conservation treatments. Many digitization projects for photographs grew out of project primarily dealing with text. Digitization of photographs:- Obviously digitization is considered to be very attractive by institutions that hold photographic collections. When digital copies are available, users can browse through a collection without handling fragile materials. Creating an adequate digital representation of a (historical) photograph requires expert knowledge of imaging techniques as well as photographic processes. The present paper describes in detail the methods and procedures adopted by The ‘Collage’-project, The Public Record Office Library, Victoria and Albert Museum (UK), The British Library (UK) and Stadt- und Universitätsbibliothek Frankfurt for conservation of their photographic collection. It also highlights the unique properties of photographs and narrates the care to be taken before digitizing this material. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/346 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: This paper describes the development of a catalogue of a digitized collection of costumes. By evaluating and analyzing the collection and evaluate how well existing metadata formats can be applied to a costume collection. The desired metadata elements shown here, selected from the existing Metadata elements and try to fit the Costume data into it. Further it can be researched by taking selected samples and actual metadata treatments to be created for these selected samples using (1) American Cataloguing Rules (AACR in) use with USMARC formats (2) the Dublin Core set of Elements , and (3) the Visual Resources Association (VRA) Core Categories for Visual Resources. Comparison and analysis of the formats will be resulted in the selection with additional metadata elements, if require. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/347 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: Free and equal information is the catch of the day, emphasis is laid today on promoting information access through different medium to provide to right user at the right time. While the information revolution has placed enormous pressure on libraries as they try to find their way across the dramatic technological revolution. Information at present is the source of production, transmission and consumption in the electronic age; and is considered to be the back bone in the digital repositories. Every digital collection is based on e-learning, which provide free access to all. In democratic world uneven access has led to a growing concern about the rise of a digital divide between information “ haves” and “have nots” based on race, income, family structure, education and other factors. Abstract: Electronic Information is the logical extension of the development in technology and the positive response to the growing need of the users for easy access of information and rights holders can gain better access to large amounts of rights data, and today most use that electronic tool. In order to manage the electronic information some effective tools like, Electronic Information Management (EIM), must be incorporated. In the simplest definition, EIM means using office technology systematically to help you store, retrieve, and safeguard your organization’s information. Most people think immediately of reducing paper, but as we rely more and more on technology to create digital information - software files, digital photographs, and Email, EIM takes on a broader scope. With current technology it’s possible to manage a complete “library” of information with centralized security, backups and control, different levels of retrieval and access, and archival storage. Digital Right Management offers a better way to manage the records you rely on. Whether documents are stored in an original electronic file format or scanned from paper, managing their storage, access and retention becomes easier with technology. Abstract: Digital learning in developed countries provides the learners with an interactive mode in a successful way, but in the case of developing countries such as India access to computer is limited to a few elite urban areas. Erratic power interruption, unaffordable investment cost for a normal citizen and obsolete software are some of the bottlenecks preventing for popularization of the eEducation. Although India tops the global list of software experts including teaching, their expertise could not be optimally utilized for the spread of eEducation due to the above-mentioned shortcomings. eEducation is about bringing education to people instead of taking people to education. It includes delivery of subject courses and training via electronic media. This paper addresses the important aspects and merits of eEducation through distance mode at an affordable cost for developing countries such as India.
