dc.description.abstract This paper discusses the general background and basic concepts of open access, as well as its current developments. It also discusses the open access journal portals, platforms for open access journals, its management and the impact it had on libraries. Despite the challenges raised against open access, open access has become a significant movement that libraries cannot ignore.
