Abstract: The article describes how federated search helps the users to find resources across library collections. Federated search is essen-tially an umbrella search often utilizing, as far as possible, the search facilities already offered by each library resource. Federated searching, also known as meta searching, broadcast searching, cross searching, and a variety of other names, is the ability to search multiple information resources from a single interface and return an integrated set of results. Abstract: Web sites have become organizational main door. Today’s digital natives want information to beavailable via World Wide Web. They want the container of the information to be simple and easyto use. Usability studies have been concentrating on developing and design user-centeredwebsites. The location of the library web objects help user to navigate and retrieve informationeasily. The study examined 75 library web sites to identify the location of library web objects (about us, my account, help, link back to home, OPAC, search box and ask a librarian). The study found that “search box” and “link back to home” web objects were located in top left and top right corner of the library websites as same in the case with e-commerce web sites. Abstract: The paper studies the measurement of research productivity of Indian scientists contributing to world soybean research for the period 1989-2008 based on the data available in the International Crop CD database. The paper measured the publication share of India in the world publication on soybean, its activity index, growth rate and doubling time, analysed the authorship pattern, various statistical distributions of authorship like mean, variance, binomial distributions, negative binomial distributions, geometric distributions; collaboration coefficient and collaboration index, prolific authors and their dominance factor, applicability of Lotka’s law, etc. The paper reveals that India has 2nd rank in research publication with 13.64% share in the world. The activity index of India decreases gradually. The growth rate has also decrease gradually and correspondingly doubling time has increased. The paper reveals high degree of collaboration with 93.10% contributions of joint authorship. The average collaboration coefficient is 0.931 and average collaboration index value is 3.115. Lotka’s Law is still found applicable in the study. The paper than calculate dominance factor (DF) of some prolific authors having 25 or more contributions and found most of the authors with low DF value. Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education was produced and developed by Association of College and Research Library (ACRL) of United States in 2000. It consists of five standards and twenty two performance indicators. Present study focuses on IL competency among the Bioscience students of Kuvempu University. Abstract: In the present information society, the world is changing into global village, classrooms are changing into virtual class rooms and libraries are changing to information centers. Students are more technology oriented and so the whole teaching-learning process. The students are expected to learn beyond the syllabus and teachers should play a role of facilitator. This is due to advent of information and communication technology. Every aspect of education is changed. e-learning, e-resources, etc. are the common words. Everyone in the education system is depend upon the information. As a result of it, we are facing new challenges like information overload, information poverty, etc. To face this challenges the librarians and educationist must think collaboratively to impart information literacy among the students so as to survive in this information age. The teachers should be information literate so that they can implement the information literacy programme in their schools. But there is a need to impart the information literacy skills among the teachers during their pre service teacher education. This paper tries to suggest a model and a draft programme with teaching and learning techniques which will be suitable to impart information literacy skills among the teachers during their pre-service teacher education in India. Abstract: Information literacy (IL) which is described as the ability to recognize when information is needed, and to be able to locate and evaluate the appropriate information and use it effectively, have become prerequisite for all levels of education including higher education. Objective of this study is to examine to what extent the IL is practiced in university libraries in Sri Lanka. It studies the effectiveness of existing user education (UE) programs as well as IL programs in 15 national university libraries in Sri Lanka. The survey questionnaire is used as the primary data collection instrument and the findings of the study are discussed in this paper. Study revealed that all the responded university libraries (73%) are conducting UE programs and only 63% out of them have introduced IL programs. However, it was identified that majority of these IL programs are only extensions of existing UE programs and as a result, no proper contribution can be expected by them on the improvement of IL skills among user community. Abstract: Universities are expected to play a vital role in development issues of their countries and beyond as they engage in teaching, learning and research. The world-wide recognition of information as a key resource to the development of economies in the 21st century places even more responsibility on universities as they are looked upon as major consumers and creators of information touching on all sectors of the economy. Their contribution to development therefore largely depends on how applicable the information they generate through research is relevant to the needs of their immediate communities; as well as on the quality of their graduates, and their contribution towards global information reserves. The introduction of Free Primary Education (FPE) by the government of Kenya and its financial support to public secondary school students, coupled with the high demand for university education and high population growth are factors that have led to high enrolments in the country’s universities. On the other hand, the lack of a national policy on school libraries, the general lack of information literacy programmes in universities, high reliance on the lecture method and the reading-for-exams-only culture are inter-related issues that need to be tackled if the country is to benefit from quality teaching, learning and research. Based on brief literature reviews and the personal experiences through involvement of the author as a teacher-librarian and lecturer and Secretary, Kenya Library Association, this paper gives a general picture of information literacy-related activities in Kenyan universities; and efforts by some stakeholders towards encouragement, adoption and implementation of information literacy efforts in universities in Kenya. Abstract: The paper presents the results of a survey of the information seeking behaviour of students at Dev Samaj College, Chandigarh. The purpose of the survey was to explore the use of information technology by the college students for seeking information and to know how they access e-resources. The study made an effort to determine the sources of accessing e-resources in particular. A questionnaire was randomly circulated to one hundred students, who visited the library. The overall response rate was 64%. It was revealed that less than fifty percent of the respondents were not aware about e-resources. It was found that the students of the College use search engines as a major source to access e-resources for their information needs and for the purpose of updating knowledge on their subjects of interest. In order to overcome the hindrances in accessing the eresources, the study recommends awareness programmes for the students and to provide training on web searching and retrieval skills.
