Abstract: With the advent of Information Technology and its application in Libraries, concept of document management has been drastically changed to information management and again with the proliferation of information world wide coupled with internet, the entire scenario of information management has started its change to knowledge management, which is a recent origin term. Knowledge Management has become a new research area in comparison to other research areas such as data processing, information management, and network management. The innermost assignment of a library is to accumulate, systematize, preserve, and endow with access to knowledge and information. In fulfilling this gigantic mission, libraries preserve a valuable record of culture that can be passed down to succeeding generations. Libraries are an essential link in this communication between past, present, and future. Whether the cultural record is contained in books or in electronic formats, libraries ensure that the record is preserved, managed and made available for wide range of its usability. Abstract: Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are simultaneously the cause and the effect in the growth of knowledge. For this reason, they play an important role in Knowledge Management (KM) but do not constitute a panacea and their establishment must be accompanied by determining actions on the part of management. Unlike some choices of implementation solutions, the selection of Knowledge Management( KM) tools cannot make do with a compartmentalized classification according to the functions of the software. It is more a question of relying on a global vision of the organization rather then focusing on software categories that are not always stripped in effects. This vision must be connected to an infrared image, pointing to knowledge flows as well as to obstacles to their diffusion, from which optimization, classical domains, these solutions must be based on organizational, human and sometimes technological actions, build with coherence. Abstract: Though literature on information and knowledge management is vast, there is much confusion concerning the meaning of these terms. According to the literature review, technology-oriented information management includes data management, information technology management and strategic information technology management. The main emphasis of these approaches is the effective and efficient use of information technology. In contrast, content-oriented approaches focus on information and its use. They can be distinguished in records management, provision of external information, human-centered information management, and information resources management. The reading of the literature on knowledge management reveals that this term is either used synonymously for information management or for the management of work practices with the goal of improving the generation of new knowledge and the sharing of existing knowledge. This article identifies various aspects that are embraced by the terms information and knowledge management. Thus, it should contribute to more terminological clarity and finally improve communication both in science and in professional practice. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/540 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: This article explores the phenomenon of Knowledge Management System from the viewpoint of a management of academic libraries with a professional background as a librarian. My perspective is a critical and informed one-laced with a healthy dose of system. In the early to mid 1990’s I struggled with defining the field of information management, of identifying the differences amongst data, information and knowledge, and the implications of these differences for professional education. .The knowledge management system is a new concept that has appeared worldwide in recent years. As a sub discipline of the knowledge economy, knowledge management is a completely new concept and method of management. It works for converting intellectual assets of workers and staff members in the organisation into higher productive forces – competition power and new value. Abstract: Welcome to the 21st century and the knowledge society. The business landscape is changing rapidly. The competitive environment is no longer linear or predictable. Survival and success depend entirely on the organization’s ability to adjust to the dynamics of business environment. Changes in Information Technology (IT) have generated gaps in access and control of information and knowledge. Even when these gaps are bridged, several fundamentals challenges remain. How do we apply KM for value-added and competitive advantage? How do we convert data into information and knowledge? How do we use technology to convert challenges into opportunities? Knowledge management is the solution for realigning the institution’s technical capabilities to create the knowledge that drives the institution forward. This paper provides a conceptual view of knowledge management, its types and the transformation from data to information and to knowledge-Elucidates the role of knowledge management in libraries-discusses how the emergence of e learning has enabled knowledge management practices to be measured and evaluated in accordance with learning objectives. Abstract: Open-source software (OSS) is a utility to empower the non-elite individuals and institutions to manage knowledge and develop low cost virtual libraries. It is an attempt to keep the software market away from monopolies and enable the non-elite institutions to build sustainable institutional repositories. Though OSS has made profound impact in the public domain worldwide, yet there is an urgent need to sensitize the stakeholders in India to enable them to learn about the benefits of open-source software and promote the concept and practice behind the movement. Only this way we can ensure diversity, equity, quality and equality, and flexibility in our products and services. Raising awareness among the non-elite about the open-source software is essential for managing knowledge and developing an egalitarian society. Open-source software has the potential to contain the twin perils of digital divide and digital determinism. Institutional repositories and WIKI-Space are the right step in preserving and disseminating our documentary heritage. This paper highlights the recommendations made by the National Knowledge Commission pertaining to the cutting-edge of Open-source software and knowledge management. It also raises a few issues that need immediate attention to empower the info-poor and develop an inclusive society. Implications of open-source software and knowledge management have also been pointed out. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1431 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: Humans are telling stories since ancient times. What is new is the purposeful use of narrative to achieve a practical outcome. Storytelling will become a key ingredient in managing communications, education, training, innovation and sharing knowledge in the digital learning environment. Storytelling is the act of telling a story in an entertaining, impressive or dramatic way. Adding feeling or emotion is probably very important in story-telling. How do we do it? Generally we remember the feeling of the event or imagine what our characters might be feeling and then adjust our ‘delivery’ accordingly. While focusing on the concept of learning style, learning methods, learning tools in knowledge management system, this article discusses the features of storytelling and how the software facilitate the telling of a story URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/549 Files in this item: 1
