Abstract: Knowledge Management is a new and hot term in today’s business world. It is not a technique. It is a process or discipline to identify the information need, identify what and where key knowledge assets can be found etc. . This can be achieved by the knowledge / information audit. Benchmarks help to set the direction for growth in the organization and communication within an organization. Maturity measure model in KM reflects where does the organization or a company stands. To basic maturity model used in KM are – Analysis Model and Development Model. The Analysis Model refers to the quality management and development Model refers to the CMM which include the People CMM. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/541 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: Invisible Web which is also known as ‘Deep Web’ or ‘Hidden Web’ refer to information content that is ‘invisible’ to conventional search engines. Public information on the invisible web is currently around 500 times larger than the commonly defined World Wide Web. Nearly 550 billion individual documents are available in the invisible web while the surface web has around only one billion documents. It has been estimated that around 2,00,000 invisible web sites exist on the Information Superhighway at present and is the largest growing category of new information on the Internet. The total quality content of the invisible web is also greater than that of the surface web and highly relevant to every information need, market and domain. But, a larger portion of the invisible web is missing from search engines’ results pages. In this context, this paper attempts to characterize the deep web’s content and relevance to information seekers and profile special tools available to mine the invisible web. Abstract: The World Wide Web has a great impact on the people for communication and transactions. It has helped transform communities towards knowledge economy, broadly speaking into a knowledge society. Now the web is facing a significant change since its inception, and Sir Tim Berners-Lee is again at the forefront of the change introducing the concept of Semantic Web. In this paper I will be trying to emphasize on some of the following points. At first a general idea about www then search engines general features and advanced features after that its drawbacks and semantic web and its different aspects. The main moto behind this paper is to show how this Semantic Web technology helps in information retrieval which are not possible by the search engines. Abstract: In the past two or three years, e-journals have become the largest and fastest growing segment of the digital collections. Collections that a few years ago numbered in the few hundreds of titles now number in the thousands, and the rate of growth continues to increase. We need to archive/preserved the copies of e-journals for future generations were the same copies being read by the current generation of users. Archiving of the E- Journal/E- Content addresses two major issues, Firstly, is giving access to the sources. Secondly, its preservation for long – term use. In this paper I will discusses the issues related to e-journal archiving and their possible solution using some open source software like LOCKSS, Dspace, Eprint, etc. In this paper I am also going to discuss the framework for Evaluation of Archiving Software. Abstract: The paper proposes a model which focuses on a strategy to implement successful open learning support system with a productive collaboration with the faculty. The learner is supported for his open learning correspondence through value added services and information products introduced through the virtual library portal. The Internet enabled library portal is a focused interactive learning space where information flow is targeted to the learning contacts and assignments at hand of the student. The portal is one stop shop model where the user is provided with the learning activity support and the information access facility. Information access facility, though conventional, is converted into flexible mode using modern learning and communication software. The learning activity support is developed into a value added service where the user is supported through faculty-library collaborative development of information products and services where most of the relevant products are available in the digitized environment for the studentship of both distance and on campus. Ultimate objective of the portal strategy is to provide the distance user with learning and literary support through Internet technology. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/554 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: The digital library is the widely accepted term describing the use of digital technologies to acquire, store, preserve and provide access to information and material originally published in digital form or digitised from existing print, audio-visual and other forms. Today most institutions are providers of technology-based services and are often involved in the production of systems supporting their initiatives. When aiming to satisfy user needs and guarantee acceptable tools and environment for consuming the assets of institutions, it is necessary to be familiar with the main standards and guidelines regulating usability. In this paper the authors highlighted the methods, forms, and issues of digital library usability. Usability should not be confused with ‘functionality’, however, as this is purely concerned with the functions and features of the product and has no bearing on whether users are able to use them or not. Increased functionality does not mean improved usability. Comparable to any other system, a digital library must possess usability properties so it can be usable by the digital library’s users. Digital library usability properties can influence usability attributes and allow users to easily and effectively accomplish digital library tasks. Abstract: Quality is a relative concept, closely linked to the level of user expectation and requirements. The relative nature of quality leads ultimately to excellence. Quality management includes effectiveness and efficiency rating, cost control, service assessment, user-oriented analysis. In the University system, libraries are the backbones to support the concept of quality academic functions. Unless and until, there is a quality approach in managing knowledge resources at library, it is difficult to expect quality of academic activities in university. In order to adapt to these new circumstances, universities are implementing new management procedures, and, for their part, university libraries are forced to make fundamental changes in order to conduct their business in line with managerial criteria. In this direction, an attempt has been made on Quality Management Model for Knowledge Resource Management and presented Assam University Library as a case study. Abstract: With the advent of Information Technology and its application in Libraries, concept of document management has been drastically changed to information management and again with the proliferation of information world wide coupled with internet, the entire scenario of information management has started its change to knowledge management, which is a recent origin term. Knowledge Management has become a new research area in comparison to other research areas such as data processing, information management, and network management. The innermost assignment of a library is to accumulate, systematize, preserve, and endow with access to knowledge and information. In fulfilling this gigantic mission, libraries preserve a valuable record of culture that can be passed down to succeeding generations. Libraries are an essential link in this communication between past, present, and future. Whether the cultural record is contained in books or in electronic formats, libraries ensure that the record is preserved, managed and made available for wide range of its usability. Abstract: This paper presents an objective view of India’s position in the global economy. It recognizes India’s achievements, but sees a tremendous potential that is yet to be achieved. What is needed is an India-led process to coordinate and integrate reforms, combining those in the economic and institutional regime with the many initiatives that are being undertaken in the more functional areas covered in many Indian strategy reports. This can only be done through a domestic process of consultation and stakeholder awareness-raising to get buy-in on the kinds of reforms required to implement the action that can leverage India’s potential. Abstract: To provide the security to the library network or any other network, nowadays we have various newly developed mechanisms to provide security in the form of identifying the user and allowing specific access to the user. User Authentication can be achieved by the way of user name and password but it has very less level of impact to identify the proper user. For this reason the new mechanism like computer access is granted by checking a fingerprint. One can use Biometric Authentication Technique to apply in the library network to provide high level of security to identify the proper user. Biometric-based authentication applications include workstation and network access, application logon, data protection, and remote access to resources, transaction security. This paper discusses the application of Biometric authentication technologies in the field of library network by way of the library model which uses Biometric authentication in the form fingerprint scanning to identify the user and then gets the library resource. Abstract: Though literature on information and knowledge management is vast, there is much confusion concerning the meaning of these terms. According to the literature review, technology-oriented information management includes data management, information technology management and strategic information technology management. The main emphasis of these approaches is the effective and efficient use of information technology. In contrast, content-oriented approaches focus on information and its use. They can be distinguished in records management, provision of external information, human-centered information management, and information resources management. The reading of the literature on knowledge management reveals that this term is either used synonymously for information management or for the management of work practices with the goal of improving the generation of new knowledge and the sharing of existing knowledge. This article identifies various aspects that are embraced by the terms information and knowledge management. Thus, it should contribute to more terminological clarity and finally improve communication both in science and in professional practice. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/540 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: This article explores the phenomenon of Knowledge Management System from the viewpoint of a management of academic libraries with a professional background as a librarian. My perspective is a critical and informed one-laced with a healthy dose of system. In the early to mid 1990’s I struggled with defining the field of information management, of identifying the differences amongst data, information and knowledge, and the implications of these differences for professional education. .The knowledge management system is a new concept that has appeared worldwide in recent years. As a sub discipline of the knowledge economy, knowledge management is a completely new concept and method of management. It works for converting intellectual assets of workers and staff members in the organisation into higher productive forces – competition power and new value.
