Abstract: This paper introduce the structure and application theorem of the RFID system, discuss application models and issues when implement the RFID system. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems have been used in libraries. These applications can lead to significant savings in staff costs, enhance service, prevent book theft and easy to stock verification, provide a constant update of library collections, holding management, but also attain real-time services. Due to the issues about reliability, insufficient, interfere with noise, cost and without killer application, therefore major library only experiment with RFID for holding management. RFID provided with these characters of batch access, storage mass data, and reprogram that were barcode cannot archive. Integrate both parent and holding with functions of RFID to extend various application. Just replace barcode and magnetic strip then archive there advantages for book identification, for the sorting and conveying of library books and AV materials, not only realize precise. The most important issue is that libraries can use nonproprietary systems today because the new generation of RFID chips with the ISO standard 15693 is available. Abstract: Information is a driving force in the world and intensely making impact on economy, development and social growth of any nation. Emergence and innovations in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is dividing the Universe in different dissection. This division is broadly known as ‘Digital Divide’ on the world map. Today, no one is going to deny the existence of digital divide. The Digital Divide is a well-known concept and is being defined by the specialists in different ways. In this paper an attempt has been made to identify the factors that are responsible for digital divide with some solutions are explained. All around the world various programmes have been launched to bridge the digital gap but despite many efforts to improve this gap seems to grow wider and wider due to the inability of those who lack the knowledge and skills needed to use the electronic contents, Internet or other communication technology. In India various programmes have been launched to bridge this digital gap and this paper explains the Role of INFLIBNET through its programme “UGC-Infonet: E-Journals Consortium which is one of the step towards bridging the digital divide in the country. Abstract: The present age is Information Age, and the pedagogic implications of this age are that people should learn new skills to use information stored on computers. Libraries and Information Centers have responded by acquiring information technology and encourage computer literacy. The information that is available through libraries, community resources, special interest organizations, media and Internet comes to individuals in unfiltered formats, rising question about its authenticity, validity and reliability. In addition, information available through multiple media poses new challenges for individuals in understanding the landscape of information and to acquire knowledge of how to gather, evaluate and use information in today’s world. Information literacy therefore, is increasingly important in the contemporary environment of rapid technological change and proliferating information resources. It enables learners to master content and extend their investigations, become more self-directed and assume greater control over their own learning. With the advances in Information and Communication technologies (Dhiman, 2001, 2002 & 2003), the traditional concepts of organization, user orientation, bibliographic description and dissemination of information are to be fine-tuned to the new environment by the Library and Information Professionals. So the LIS professionals working in the environment have to face challenges for providing the right information to the right user at the right time. Abstract: Information literacy has become a crucial issue today for development and progress. It is the information gap that divides the nations into rich and poor. Even at the individual level to become an independent lifelong learner it is essential to achieve a high level of information literacy. Information Literacy programmes are under way across the globe. An attempt is made in this paper to find out the challenges in initiating Information Literacy programmes. Such a study is important because for the ultimate success of the Information Literacy programmes it is significant to know and understand the possible challenges. An analysis of eleven case studies on information literacy originating from different countries is studied. The paper identifies and presents eleven challenges in initiating Information Literacy programmes. It concludes by give raise to certain issues that emerge. Abstract: Institutional Repositories (IRs) are a visible manifestation of the emerging importance of Knowledge Management (KM) in higher education. Paradoxically, “scholarly respect for knowledge and a desire to ensure academic freedom make most institutions reluctant to manage knowledge of any sort”. This paper explains the concept of Institutional Repository (IR) and brings out the definitional analysis of IR definitions. Briefly describes the initiatives taken towards building IRs. States the logical Principles of IR and emphasizes its significance in Academic and Research Institutions. Further highlights the benefits in developing IRs. Explains the availability of free and fee software in the design and development of IRs and enumerates features of each software. Finally urges to adopt relevant standards to achieve globalization and access of IRs by universal community. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/542 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: Dynamic Web content provides us with time-sensitive and continuously changing data. To glean up-to-date information, users need to regularly browse, collect and analyze this Web content. Without proper tool support this information management task is tedious, timeconsuming and error prone, especially when the quantity of the dynamic Web content is large, when many information management services are needed to analyze it, and when underlying services/network are not completely reliable. Electronic Warehouse Receipt is not a new concept. Electronic data has given the prospect of eliminating paper documents, reducing costs and improving efficiency by exchanging business information in electronic form. The objective of this paper is developing an Integrate Electronic Warehouse Receipt Management System for Indian agriculture market which supports services like trading, latest price information, electronic warehouse receipt and making all these services available on internet as well as IVR (Interactive Voice response) and Simple Messages Services. Although many agriculture e-business platforms exist in the market but they don’t ensure that the commodity is actually held by the seller and the quantity and quality are as mentioned. To solve this problem we have come with the concept of Electronic Warehouse Receipt (EWR) which is the same as the concept of ‘dematerialization of shares’ or ‘demat’ in short. Abstract: The introduction of the need of Internet is given which is causing an un-precedent wave of technological change and making this planet a global village. In computer education or R & D or for any, Internet is playing a vital role through out the world. A hexagonal type information access model is designed for greater utility of the existing resources and print materials available etc. the model is very idealistic for information accessing. After explaining the model blocks, development of national infrastructure as suggested by Artherton. P of UNESCO is written. The Indian scenario is presented with various available nets and organizations. The globalization and local touch with electronic connectivity like Japan and Singapore is suggested. Concluded that our model using Internet will give updated information and best use of resources access with global information market. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1101 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: The World Wide Web is growing at an exponential rate. There are more and more technologies being developed to provide different ways of accessing this huge information resource, as well as representing the information stored. Because of the increase in information available and people or agents accessing it, the issue of securing this information has become paramount. Semantic Web is an extension of the current web in which the information is given well defined meaning, better enabling computers and people to work in co-operation.[1]. The web pages are designed to be read by humans and not machines. The Semantic Web is a project aimed to make web pages understandable by computers, so that they can search web sites and perform actions in a standardized way URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1099 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: Portals are becoming the primary interface through which students, faculty, administrators and alumni interact with educational institutes. As a result, portals are rapidly becoming the most empowering strategic information system framework for institutional Information Technology (IT) solutions. Portals have become the most effective delivery mechanism for information creation, sharing and knowledge management strategy. The portal transforms the user’s access method from desktop to a secure “WebTop,” offering intelligent, integrated, and personalized access to enterprise services from anywhere, anytime. While humble in itself, the portal has the power and potential to transform institutions and make a significant contribution towards success. The goal of this paper is to assist in understanding or high lighting various aims, objectives, benefits, the role of Knowledge Management & Information Services (Library) as well as how it can be developed and implemented successfully for various other educational institutions by looking at the NID K-Portal model and architecture. Abstract: The article presents a brief overview of Open Acess, IRs and Librarians role. Universities and other institutions can have complex motives for establishing IRs; providing free access to all IR materials is often one of them. Open access initiatives may focus on technical support costs of IRs, while librarians may also be concerned with various other problems such as staff and user training and support, IR advocacy and promotion, metadata creation and maintenance, and long-term digital preservation etc. Consequently, we can see IRs as cheap to support and quick to implement, while as librarians we can take a more cautious approach that takes in to consideration other constraints and the library maxim that it is easier to establish a new service than to stop offering one. IRs are best seen as an enabling technology for open access and as their best hope for establishing permanent repositories. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1160 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: In the early days of the Net revolution most of companies launched their Net presence through corporate Websites. They used their websites to show their products and services with significant information content. As websites grew in number it became difficult for customer to locate or search the net for sites of their choice. Search engines thus emerged and went on to become key players, directing millions of surfers to various sites to get online search of their choice. However the phenomenal growth of search engines was accompanied by unprecedented choices opening up for the customer. This phase was marked by the transformation of search engines/directories into portals. Instead of competing on width offered by horizontal portals, players were forced to compete on depth. The libraries did not become aloof from the Net revolution. They also launched portals to attract the specific group of interest. This concept brought paradigm shift in the sense of “right information to right user from approaching relevant information”, “save the time of users from separating irrelevant information”, “educate the users for self search by arranging contents in specific manner”. Abstract: This paper emphasizes the significance, elements and functionality of library portals, the role of librarian as selector and organizer of information on the web. The portal offers the user the ease of searching many sources at once, integrating results from licensed resources and local databases and bibliographical descriptions of digitized material. Equally, the familiar portal interface is an option for searching databases that are unfamiliar to the users. Librarians bring their expertise with content, their knowledge of copyright, their commitment to customer service and their experience in creating customized web-based information delivery systems. Abstract: One of the key challenges facing information managers today is the need to inter-relate different sources and types of Information, whether it be in an internet search across a range of resources with different formats, data structures and description standards or an ecommerce system that needs to exchange data between proprietary applications in order to complete a transaction. Understanding the structure of the data allows this to occur and metadata is the means by which this happens. Using metadata to record data about Information sources allows an initial assessment of compatibility and provides an avenue for merging information or for exchanging Information between systems. In other wards the concept of “interoperability” has become a major theme for information managers and ultimately for users. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/533 Files in this item: 1
