Abstract: Information technology is an amalgam of some wonderful inventions of the 21th century in electronics and communication. During a very short span of time it has acquired an important place in almost all aspects of human life and particularly in the field of education. India has taken some bold steps to adapt and absorb the advances in information technology by constitution of national task force. Having missed the benefits of the industrial revolution as a result of more than two centuries of colonization, the country is overtaken by the information revolution. At the same time globalization having opened the doors wide to alien influence, the government has decided to take all steps to make India an IT super power by adoption of IT as a national program so as to enable personal and national growth. At the one end, some premier institutions are having access to all facilities in terms of educational technology such as multimedia system, LAN, WAN, and World Wide Web on the other hand a large number of university are still depending only on stereotyped lecture method in imparting knowledge. Therefore the existence of technology gap provides an opportunity to use IT supported education technologies for better delivery of education, easier access to a number of knowledge sources, sharing through networks and quality distance learning in management education. In this paper will cover the scope of web based learning, Technology of delivery system, Electronic Library, IT in Distance Education. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1201 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: Catalog used to be a one point resource locater in Library in earlier days. Library professionals and users are happy with that practice in the print only era. Due to emergence of Electronic Resources, the role of catalog is also changing. Electronic resources have become reality along with print resources. Accessing electronic resources shows that librarians and users are facing a complex set of challenges. While a number of products have evolved for each aspect of the problem, the question is, how can they all be designed and implemented in such a way that they all work together, providing a clear and seamless interface for library users and avoiding redundant work for library staff? To date, no single product exists that provides comprehensive management of electronic resources. Will portals or federated search solutions be the answer to managing and providing access to resources available from academic libraries as well as other content needed by the academic community? With many, disparate electronic information sources available today, users are challenged with identifying and locating resources that match their needs. This paper explores some of the issues related to future of the catalog. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/548 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: Learning objects are building blocks of e-learning . They are found embedded in various types of environments viz. institutional repositories, VLEs/MLEs, online learning repositories and personal repositories. In the distributed environments it is difficult to locate a desirable LO to match with a given set of learning objectives, hence various standards pertaining to interoperability of the repositories and to facilitate cross-searching, accessibility, reusability, aggregation of LOs have been developed. But there is no agreement on the use of instructional design and verification of the content of a LO. The present study outlines quality control measures currently practiced by the managing organizations of selected representative learning repositories, with respect to these two criteria only. Abstract: Dynamic Web content provides us with time-sensitive and continuously changing data. To glean up-to-date information, users need to regularly browse, collect and analyze this Web content. Without proper tool support this information management task is tedious, timeconsuming and error prone, especially when the quantity of the dynamic Web content is large, when many information management services are needed to analyze it, and when underlying services/network are not completely reliable. Electronic Warehouse Receipt is not a new concept. Electronic data has given the prospect of eliminating paper documents, reducing costs and improving efficiency by exchanging business information in electronic form. The objective of this paper is developing an Integrate Electronic Warehouse Receipt Management System for Indian agriculture market which supports services like trading, latest price information, electronic warehouse receipt and making all these services available on internet as well as IVR (Interactive Voice response) and Simple Messages Services. Although many agriculture e-business platforms exist in the market but they don’t ensure that the commodity is actually held by the seller and the quantity and quality are as mentioned. To solve this problem we have come with the concept of Electronic Warehouse Receipt (EWR) which is the same as the concept of ‘dematerialization of shares’ or ‘demat’ in short. Abstract: Institutional Repositories (IRs) are a visible manifestation of the emerging importance of Knowledge Management (KM) in higher education. Paradoxically, “scholarly respect for knowledge and a desire to ensure academic freedom make most institutions reluctant to manage knowledge of any sort”. This paper explains the concept of Institutional Repository (IR) and brings out the definitional analysis of IR definitions. Briefly describes the initiatives taken towards building IRs. States the logical Principles of IR and emphasizes its significance in Academic and Research Institutions. Further highlights the benefits in developing IRs. Explains the availability of free and fee software in the design and development of IRs and enumerates features of each software. Finally urges to adopt relevant standards to achieve globalization and access of IRs by universal community. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/542 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: One of the key challenges facing information managers today is the need to inter-relate different sources and types of Information, whether it be in an internet search across a range of resources with different formats, data structures and description standards or an ecommerce system that needs to exchange data between proprietary applications in order to complete a transaction. Understanding the structure of the data allows this to occur and metadata is the means by which this happens. Using metadata to record data about Information sources allows an initial assessment of compatibility and provides an avenue for merging information or for exchanging Information between systems. In other wards the concept of “interoperability” has become a major theme for information managers and ultimately for users. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/533 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: The past few years have seen tremendous developments in information production, acquisition, and dissemination. Budgetary restrictions in research libraries have led to a period known as the serial cutting era. The new millennium has also ushered in the concept of the virtual library with seamless access to an integrated collection of print, electronic, and multimedia resources regardless of their physical location or ownership. Research scientists, policy makers, and reference librarians the world over are coming together to introduce reforms to make scientific knowledge affordable. Providing access to information free of charge in electronic formats is a concept that is gaining momentum. Open Access is one step ahead of Free Access. Open Access holds promise to remove both price and permission barriers to the scientific communication by using Internet. The present paper outlines the features of open access and the two vehicles viz. open access journals and open access archives. A few current open access initiatives in India are described in detail. In India, there is a large opportunity for open access publishing but still the number of registered archives is very less. Indian scientific communities and organizations like Indian Academy of Sciences, Indian Institute of Science, Indian National Science Academy, NISCAIR, INFLIBNET, etc are now actively taking initiatives towards creation of institutional repositories and providing open access to their publications.
