Abstract: Knowledge is widely recognized as a critical organizational resource irrespective of economic sector or type of organization. It is difficult if not possible to maximize the values of this resource without adequate understanding of how to leverage and share knowledge throughout the organization. Knowledge plays an important role in the overall development of intellectual capital of any organization. We are now shifting from information society to knowledge-based society, where we are not so much bothering about the visible or tangible information but deeply thinking about intangible information i.e. knowledge. In this knowledge-based society the main strategic resources are knowledge. And knowledge is the fuel, which is driving today the technology, economy, and the society itself. In this changing context there must have systematic way to capture, process, store and ultimately share knowledge for the development of an organization as well as society. Present Paper attempt to highlight the principles, efforts and barriers of knowledge sharing in Digital Environment URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1065 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: The early days of the WWW changed retrieval tools in many ways. Retrieving searching and filtering massive uncontrolled database of the Web pages presents new challenges. The role of traditional libraries has been changed by the introduction of Internet access. So the users now have access to more information than before; that they must rely on search engine to retrieve and rank the results of their searching. Thus this paper highlights the customer-based information retrieval through search engine by classifying the need of customer into five categories such as functional, hedonic, innovative, aesthetic and sign needs of customer. Abstract: An attempt has been made to study the IT awareness among the informational professionals and also highlights the obstacles faced by the libraries in the application of IT in the public libraries of Manipur. For this, a questionnaire and personal interview method was used to collect the adequate data. The study reveals that majority of the professionals were not aware of IT and thereby suggesting the need for a training programme for the in-service information professionals to help them keep abreast of the latest IT in order to face the new challenges in the field of information science. Abstract: Theses and dissertations are important knowledge resource created by graduate students in universities or institutes of higher learning. Due to lack of bibliographic control, and restricted access, these grey literature collect dust on shelves of libraries. Hence these are lost to prospective researchers and students to further their studies etc. Although many national and international efforts are being made to collect, collate and distribute theses and dissertations in many forms, none is comprehensive. The present trend is to prepare the theses in electronic form to facilitate easy online access to metadata, abstract and table of content or full text , the theses become OAIPMH compliant and can be searched on internet from anywhere. Depending upon access restrictions the theses can be harvested and stored in any institutional repositories. Indian scenario of theses and dissertations as knowledge resources, and maiden efforts by Tocklai Library in creation of Institutional Repository [IR] of all theses and dissertations in tea science and technology including other aspects are discussed. Proposes for a networked repository of TeaETDs among possible stakeholders in the plan. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1350 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: Information Communication Technologies (ICT) are undergoing rapid changes. Librarian needs to redesign the structure of their library to meet the changing needs by learning and implementing new practices and technologies. How does one provide excellent library service through digital technologies? What are the expectations of digital library patrons? How do we make library patrons satisfied in this digital era? What are the skills librarians need to possess? These questions are addressed in this articles. The digital librarian acts as guardian of the information superhighway and acts as a symbiotic human-machine guru. Article also highlights the roles and functions of a digital library information retrieval, navigation and browsing. This paper outlines professional skills and technological competencies for the development of library professional staff in order to meet the current and future need of users as well as to survive in a rapidly changing technological environment. Abstract: ICT plays a crucial role in today’s increasingly globalized world. Libraries are in a process of fundamental change brought about by radical changes in technology. In this state of transition to introduce electronic library services, traditional libraries offer support in the way of personnel, funding, information delivery and management for these electronic libraries. The electronic library is growing fast in parallel to the traditional library. The high rate of growth is dictated by factors outside the library. Libraries are under a lot of pressure to achieve their noble goals much faster than planned, to adopt new technologies, to compete with others in managing the tremendous growth of information and to be able to lead in the area. The management and delivery of information in an electronic library differs from traditional library in many ways. The purpose of this paper is to collect the management and delivery problems arisen out of adoption of the electronic library and to present possible solutions in the areas of five basic parts of scientific management – planning, organizing, staffing, directing and controlling.
