Abstract: In this emerging knowledge society, there has been a sea change in the knowledge sectors. Library and Information centres and their similar organizations are also not an exception to this. A changing trend in the mode of procurement, storage, processing and particularly in the delivery of services of the libraries is observed in almost all the libraries of the modern age. Also there are libraries continuing the traditional services and attempting towards provision of new services. In the changing scenario, ICT (Information and Communication Technology) has been the most instrumental factor. In this backdrop, in our paper, taking Manipur University library, as a case study, an attempt has been made to highlight the innovative practices adopted in the mode of delivery of services. Abstract: Data mining, the extraction of hidden predictive information from large databases, is a powerful new technology with great potential to help the Libraries and Information Centers to focus on the most important information in their data warehouses. Data mining tools predict future trends and behaviors, allowing Libraries and Information Centers managers to make proactive, knowledgedriven decisions. The automated, prospective analyses offered by data mining move beyond the analyses of past events provided by retrospective tools typical of decision support systems. Data mining tools can resolve the problems in Libraries and Information Centers especially in a digital environment. Data Mining has become imminent in view of the abundant growth of digital resources for its management, organization, and retrieval and dissemination of the same to the right users instantly to satisfy the varied need of the users due to inter-disciplinary research. Data Mining, Viability of Data Mining, Process involved in Data Mining, etc. have been discussed in this paper. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1077 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: The most innovative online journals are maturing rapidly and distinctive new Knowledge Portals are emerging day by day. Foremost among the features of the portals is the hypertext link, popularized by the World Wide Web and which will form the basis of a new, highly integrated scholarly literature. Journal integration in this instance seeks to recognize, extend and exploit relationships at the level of journal content–the papers–while maintaining some of the familiar contexts. Links are a powerful tool for journal integration, most immediately in the form of citation linking. The paper defines what knowledge portals are and describes a new system, a link service, which is being developed to support novel and flexible linking mechanisms on the Web. The main aims and objectives of the study and the definitions of citation linking of journal articles and the importance of the citation linking are also discussed in this article with reference to the e-journal Knowledge portal of ACM. The methodology used in the JACM to link the citations is explained with figures. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1014 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: Knowledge has become the key driving force in the present day. Gone are the days when organizations were reluctant and complacent in sharing of information and knowledge. Today, every organization has understood the importance of knowledge. In the modern digital information and knowledge environment, a well-defined mechanism is needed to organize, store, and access information and knowledge. Knowledge portals are used as tools for implementing a knowledge management methodology. A knowledge portal is highly beneficial to make the collections accessible to user who expects all knowledge to be obtainable with just a few clicks from inside a web browser. This paper has just focussed on the knowledge portals, which is a new revolution in the field of Library and Information Science. The knowledge portal definitely has potential and challenging tasks for the library and information professionals. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1031 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: If there is any place that makes the library a true global hub of information, it is the reference desk or reference section, for this is the heart of librarianship, and it is here that innovative ideas need to be incorporated in order to fulfill this purpose. This paper examines the various innovations in reference service such as consortia and virtual reference service. It briefly describes these new services along with the problems and solutions relating to them. It concludes that while it is important to maintain traditional reference practices, it is also imperative to keep up with the times and embrace new ideas in order to make the library the global hub of information. Abstract: Convergence of technologies has made library and information services across the regional, national and transnational geographic barriers, and reach global users at the ease of time and speed. Developing union catalogues of library holdings is one of the core areas in this regard; which has invited attention for a good number of obvious reasons and objectives. Information and Library Network (INFLIBNET) programme of the University Grants Commission (UGC) had launched this noble venture of creating a Union Database of university holding of the country. This study is lined up to have a close look on the State-of-the-Art scenario of the university libraries in the NE region of the country towards accomplishing this venture.
