Abstract: An attempt has been made to study the IT awareness of the user community in the State of Manipur. The paper highlights the information needs and dependence of information on Community Information Centres (CIC) are analysed. The conclusion focuses on the considerable work and effort needed for imparting computer literacy, information literacy for preparing and powering the masses for the construction of knowledge based society. Further, according to the requirements of the user community, content preparation is necessary and it has been suggested that, the information available on internet may update on a frequent basis usually in local language for the benefit of local communities. Abstract: Politicians constitute a particular group of users whose information need and information seeking behaviour is quite specific. In our paper an attempt is being made to ascertain the information needs of politicians who belong to different parties in Manipur. The channels and sources of information they use and their involvement in information activities are some of the parameters on which emphasis has been given. Abstract: The paper discuss Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) library, digitization efforts and its custom made library software created with Visual Basic. The North Arcot Educational Trust established the Vellore Engineering College in 1984. This college is situated in the city outskirts of Vellore in Tamil Nadu; Southern India. To satisfy the information needs of faculty and students of the university, and to provide all possible user services, the institute established the Central Library in 1984. The VIT Central library at present is housed in a four-storied building with 51,000 square feet built-in area and is centrally air-conditioned. The library building is well designed and constructed keeping in mind all the necessary functions of a library. Mentions all available modules of the software. The VIT library is using simple in-house developed library software since 1998. The software was developed in Visual Basic, by the Center for Technical Support of the institute. The software consists of only two modules, namely, Circulation and OPAC modules and supported by bar code. The VIT library having a well planned library building and modern facilities is trying to digitize their library. Abstract: Information is available in many different forms. Search Engines are very useful tools to find out information available on the net. The competition among Internet search engines is intense, and that’s good news for net users. But despite each search service’s attempt to become the ultimate online find-it tool, no single service can cater for every need. Library and Information professional use this type of tools and get better result from the site, use popular search engines. Internet is a wide network many type of information can get it. In this paper the Authors suggest that the resources are available in the net somehow know web address of the site without any information of the site find the information. For better use of this one should use the search engine. Search engines have a variety of ways to refine and control your searches. Some of them offer menu systems for this.
