Abstract: Libraries are moving into a transitional state i.e. traditional library service and integration of current ICT to facilitate the services. Since the inception of libraries, libraries are trying to develop their collection in order to satisfy the need of their users. It is not possible for the librarians’ to provide all desired information to their users so they depend on other libraries for the information. The Library cooperation started with the participatory culture. The library professionals cooperate each other’s through various ways like inter library loan, consultancies etc. Online catalogs, hightech campus information networks, and accelerated resource sharing present opportunities for building comprehensive information centers. The present paper discusses the participative management, team work, ICT, Library building etc among library professionals as well as the user community. The library 2.0 technologies are helpful for collaborating in information creation, storage and retrieval. The library staff needs to be more dynamic in their approach to learn the current technology and leadership skills. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1716 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: Information Technology has revolutionized the information handling activities in research and academic libraries in the country. During the past decade or so, use of information technology has been gaining a lot of attention and importance due to the encouragement give by the government of India, university authorities and state governments. We find application of IT in every sphere of work and several government departments have started e-governance cells to reach out to the public to offer their services. Under these circumstances librarians cannot lag behind. This paper gives some useful information to help academic librarians to start automation of their services in a simple way. Abstract: Academic libraries in India have been affected by an uncertain financial environment in which resource buying has been restricted, causing them to look at ways of extending their purchasing capabilities to compensate for reduced budgets. Technological developments, electronic publishing of scholarly journals, emerging of consortia, prizing models of the publishers gives new opportunities for libraries to provide instant access to information. Library consortium is the one of the emerging tool kit for libraries to survive in the e-publishing environment. An attempt has been made to identify the objectives, types, major issues and approach for co nsortia in Indian environment. Abstract: Libraries play a very important role in this fast changing e-environment of publishing. Their role includes identification of selection of information, its organization of management, storage retrieval and dissemination to right users at the right time at right place at right price and in right format. The goal of any academic libraries is to meet the teaching, research and other information needs of the user. The proliferation of the literature on all the subjects, price of journals hike in currency conversion rate and the budget crunch made the libraries depend upon each other. This leads to library co-operation, resource sharing and networks etc. At present the online databases, E-journals facilitate formation of the consortia at resource sharing among the libraries. Consortia prove to be one of the major solutions to the existing problems of budget crunches among the libraries and information centers. The advent of E-publishing has brought a revolution in journal publication, subscription and access delivery mechanism. The paper discuses the necessisity increasing the information resources in electronic form to meet the current demand of academic libraries and institutions at affordable cost and also discuses need and importance of E-journal consortium and resource sharing among libraries and information centers.
