Abstract: The concept of Library 2.0 is borrowed from that of Web 2.0 and Business 2.0 and follows some of the same underlying philosophies. Library 2.0 encompasses a range of new and contemporary technological tools and techniques that are used for evolving collaborative environment required for Library 2.0. These tools and techniques can broadly be grouped into five categories, i.e. i) Synchronous Communication: Instant messaging; ii) Content Delivery: RSS Feed, HTML Feed, Streaming Media, Podcasting, Vodcasting and SMS Enquiry Services; iii) Collaborative Publishing Tools: Blogs and Wikis; iv) Collaborative Service Platforms: Social Networks, Tagging, Social Bookmarking Services; and v) Hybrid Applications, Programs and Programming Tools: Mashups, AJAX, API and Toolbar. These tools and techniques are useful for libraries in providing new services and making existing services available in new and interesting ways. Implementation of some of these tools and techniques are likely to improve reputation and standing of libraries in the community. Some of them may successfully attract new patrons to the library, others may help to retain existing members or make libraries even more important as centres of the culture and history of their cities and academic institutions. Some of the new services may remain unused, however, since feedback and public opinion is a vital component of Library 2.0, such services may be abandoned in favour of other services that are better accepted by the users. Some of those changes may be viewed as disruptive, while others may not be feasible or applicable to all libraries. These new services and ongoing changes are likely to make libraries more interesting, more relevant, and better acceptable place.Library 2.0 proposes to bring revolutionary changes in libraries that are bound to bring about conceptual, cultural and physical changes in libraries to keep pace with the changes in communities and their information seeking behaviour. Applications of Web 2.0 technologies in libraries will result in a meaningful and substantive change in libraries, its collection, services and methods of delivery of services. The library’s collection will change, becoming more interactive and fully accessible. The library’s services will change, focusing more on the facilitation of information transfer and information literacy rather than providing controlled access to it. The implications of these revolutionary technologies are enormous and are discussed in the paper. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1460 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: Human being needed learning and education throughout his life. Right from birth to death, we learn new things which come to our live. We need guidance; we need facilities to perform in order to reach our target. Modern Education is Library oriented education and research based principle. The teachers should actively engage their students in using the library as a kind of laboratory of learning “how to manage their own education”. (1) The library must be taken as an extension of the class-room and expected from the students to use it intelligently in preparation for discussions in class, seminar reports and papers. Students and other Library users may not know the system practice in the Library. What documents available in the library and what facilities the library provides to the user will be discuss in this paper. In addition to this, providing facilities to the faculty inside and outside the library, facilities providing to students for their career development choke out also discussed. Abstract: The present approach towards partnership, networking, consortia and resource sharing adopted by Indian libraries need radical changes to evolve responsive partnerships in order to achieve best performance in service. The current practices of journal acquisition in most of the libraries in the colleges and universities in India are print based, in which each library is an island with regard to access of information. Moreover, there is wide disparity in the availability and use of information among different universities and colleges. But, consortia based acquisition and electronic desktop delivery of information can eliminate this gulf and increase the access and use considerably. Thus the difficulty now faced by the students, teachers and scientists in getting academic and research information will be eliminated on achieving full bibliographical control on the information documents available world over. This paper depicts the benefits of library consortia, analyses the present trend in the formation of consortia in India and suggests a new model of library consortia in which all academic institutions and government research organizations could participate. The formation of such a unique consortium under the direction and full support by the Government of India is stressed. The role that can be played by the INFLIBNET Centre of the University Grants Commission in the formation and management of such a consortium is also depicted. The areas of re-defining and re-engineering the operations of the university libraries necessitated by the consortia based electronic information and document delivery services are also discussed. Abstract: User is the key person in any library. The success of any library depends considerably on how best the system design is based on a close and accurate understanding of the users. The user is not only the important aspect but is also paradoxically a dynamic component of the library. The internet is a highly complex network that interconnects millions of computers around the world. In a medical college hospital campus, all the doctors and students are not able to come to the library to search the library resources, which are available; it may be print materials or online materials or non book materials. So, it is necessary to design/develop their own Intranet microsite or Campus network of the library, which could be connected to the LAN (Local Area Network) and make available to all the network computer terminals of the campus/hospital; this microsite should deliver/give all the facilities available in their library. The Manipal University Health Sciences Library also developed/designed and made access of library microsite for their users. Our study showed that 96.7% of respondents have awareness of Microsite developed by the library; 66.7% of the respondents were accessing the Internet resources through the library microsite and they are satisfied with the library resources.
