Abstract: Here we present about automatically generated ontologies for a semantic web search system using data mining techniques. This will improve the query process and will get better semantic results. Ranking algorithm[1] is used to search and analyze web documents in a more flexible and effective way. Hyperlink structure of web document is utilized to rank the results. We use association rule mining to find the maximal keyword patterns. Clustering is used to group retrieved documents into distinct sets. This will extract knowledge about query from the web, populate a knowledge base. The search engine that searches the web documents so far are syntactic oriented. Here we develop a searching system that semantically searches the documents. The semantics of the terms is achieved using the ontologies. Ontology serves as Meta data schemas, providing a controlled vocabulary of concepts, each with explicitly defined meaning. Ranking algorithm used here is the hyper textual ranking algorithm that scans both the contents of the documents and also the reciprocally linked documents. This technique has several advantages that include providing better semantic notion during the search. It also serves for multiple frame documents. There is a need for automatic generation of ontologies when using the semantic searching system. The paper here focuses on how the automatic generation of ontologies could be done for a semantic search system using data mining techniques. Abstract: Libraries are using cutting edge item level RFID technology in a closed loop system. Today, more and more libraries are adopting RFID as it streamlines workflow in the area of self service, book returns, shelf management and inventory. The potential benefits of using RFID in libraries from the perspective of its main stake holders- the organization; library staff and its patrons shall be highlighted. The paper discusses underline NCIP standards development, practical issues related to RFID working in a library environment and touch upon basic RFID issues concerning equipment maintenance & support; software compatibility; privacy and standardization. Real potential of RFID as a cross-institution platform for identification will be limited by use of proprietary RFID systems and hence recommends system integrators, vendors and libraries to adopt standards & follow best practices guidelines issued by NISO for use of RFID in Libraries. Abstract: The history of education and the scholars produced by Bihar is well known to the world. The patliputra was the ancient capital of India during Ashoka Dynasty. The well-known libraries, i.e. Nalanda and Vikramshila were in this state. Our education started from paperless society and we are moving towards paperless society. The difference is, in ancient time paper was not invented but now the advent of IT, we are moving towards paperless society. In the context of Information Technology the article, tries to explain the existing scenario of automation especially in Academic Libraries. The paper will include the libraries of Jharkhand too. The Jharkhand is a bifurcated part of Bihar. It came into existence on 15 November 02. At present, there are 14 universities catering the needs for higher education in the state. The Patna University in richest university in terms of collection, infrastructure facilities, established in 1917.In 1992, according to State University act five new Universities were established. All the Universities are having well equipped Libraries with modern architecture. Abstract: The Internet is a huge source of free and openly available information. However, the awareness about the availability of such free and open source information amongst members of the academic community is not clearly known. This aspect was studied using a structured questionnaire and the data recorded through the survey was analyzed. The results reinforce the commonly held belief that the academic community is largely unaware of these vast and freely available resources. The study also points out the role a librarian can play in imparting awareness through information literacy sessions from the library . URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1626 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: The twenty first century creates a new environment for education in general and higher education in particular. The progress of any country is strongly linked with the quality of education. However, with mushrooming of educational institutions in all parts of the country and several types of economic activities dominating the landscape, the issue of quality has now assumed a critical dimension. College libraries play an indispensable role in the dissemination of information of knowledge, they should be in a position to provide effective teaching learning information support to its user’s communities. Libraries are one of the important components of the assessment through which an impact on the accreditation of the institute is related. To meet the end user’s demands effectively, they need to identify and adopt good practices. NAAC has decided to identify the set of best practices in Library and Information Services, with the help of a few case presentations from few selected libraries of the accredited Universities and Colleges. This paper shows a clear picture about the developments of college libraries of Nalbari district(Assam) after NAAC’s evaluation. It gives the status of best practices followed by the surveyed libraries. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1705 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: Learning objects are building blocks of e-learning . They are found embedded in various types of environments viz. institutional repositories, VLEs/MLEs, online learning repositories and personal repositories. In the distributed environments it is difficult to locate a desirable LO to match with a given set of learning objectives, hence various standards pertaining to interoperability of the repositories and to facilitate cross-searching, accessibility, reusability, aggregation of LOs have been developed. But there is no agreement on the use of instructional design and verification of the content of a LO. The present study outlines quality control measures currently practiced by the managing organizations of selected representative learning repositories, with respect to these two criteria only. Abstract: Biometric identification refers to a technology that uses scanned graphical information from many sources for personal identification purposes. The biometric technology helps the libraries to ensure safety and security to its invaluable collections, infrastructure and human resources. It is the duty of the librarian to keep the library buildings, shelves and stacks open and free without losing items to make available or putting individuals at unacceptable risk from the malicious, avaricious or senseless acts of others. Further, the LIS professionals are now handling huge database, provide access to online journals and web-enabled online public access catalogues in the networked digital environment where there are a lot of scope for compute /cyber crimes. In this regard, the biometric technology is a boon for the LIS professionals as it provides a single point of control for administrators to manage access to library resources such as computers, buildings, doors, the Internet, and software applications. In this context, this paper attempts to study the various types of biometric applications available for LIS centres, its prospects and problems as well. Abstract: To provide the security to the library network or any other network, nowadays we have various newly developed mechanisms to provide security in the form of identifying the user and allowing specific access to the user. User Authentication can be achieved by the way of user name and password but it has very less level of impact to identify the proper user. For this reason the new mechanism like computer access is granted by checking a fingerprint. One can use Biometric Authentication Technique to apply in the library network to provide high level of security to identify the proper user. Biometric-based authentication applications include workstation and network access, application logon, data protection, and remote access to resources, transaction security. This paper discusses the application of Biometric authentication technologies in the field of library network by way of the library model which uses Biometric authentication in the form fingerprint scanning to identify the user and then gets the library resource.
