Abstract: ICT has changed the complete scenario of delivering the information. Now, information is available in electronic form and e-journals are the part of it. E-journals form the major part of the collection in libraries and are supporting the dynamic research in the present scenario. Present paper is a sincere attempt to discuss about the concept of e-journals and its role in opening the path for the dynamic research in present society. Abstract: Most scientists today have access to full-text e-journals. In most cases, this facility is provided right at the desktop. In this paper, we present a case study of full-text e-journal patterns amongst the scientists and engineers at the National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL), a constituent of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). The facility at NAL is provided right to the desktop through the NAL-CSIR-NISCAIR e-conglomerate. Today, National Institute of Science Communication and Information Research (NISCAIR) provides e-access to more than 4042 world-class e-journals to all S&T personnel of the CSIR fraternity. This CSIR-NISCAIR initiative allows any scientist in any CSIR Laboratory to access this electronic information to keep abreast of the latest technological developments in his area of specialization. The analysis of data on the full-text e-journal patterns is presented for the period 2005 to 2007. The major findings that we would like to highlight in this paper are: (a) the mean number (per-month) of full-text downloads for the above three years was found to be different through Kruskal Wallis test of ‘One Way Analysis of Variance’ at 1% level of significance and (b) Chi-Square test was applied to test whether there is independence between the years and the publishers. The calculated value of Chi- Square was found to be 510.6, which is highly significant. Hence we conclude that for the full-text downloads data, the years and the publishers are not independent. This Chi-Square test was carried out for only those publishers (4 in number) for which the data was available for all the three years (2005-2007). Abstract: The application of ICT in the libraries and education has brought a paradigm shift in the structure of the library and education system today. The traditional library has now changed to the automated, digital, electronic, hybrid and at present to the borderless library and the conventional education too is been replaced by e-learning. The borderless library has a huge collection of information resources in electronic form which are accessible through the Internet, intranet and extranet. It reduces the geographical restrictions and makes the process of obtaining education and training easy at a reduced cost and time enabling a vibrant user even from a remote area to obtain education and training in his field of specialization or as to the requirement of his profession from the online institutions and universities available in his own country or outside thus paving a significant way towards the global information network. Abstract: Books form an important part of human culture and heritage. Traditional approaches to book production include either manual or mechanical binding of sheets of paper in order to form an organized, structured entity of knowledge. Now, the mode of production, dissemination and information seeking behavior of users are changing in electronic era and call for alternative approaches to book production, dissemination and use. One such alternative approach is the creation of Electronic Book. This paper discusses the growing importance of e-book, creation techniques, some issues and challenges and its implications in libraries and information centers. Abstract: Sophisticated access mechanisms, spiraling serials costs, new technologies and growing researcher needs and expectations are all driving libraries to reassess basic assumptions about interlibrary loan and document delivery. This article deals with document delivery service, its needs, characteristics and types. It discusses electronic document, motives and components of electronic document delivery. Trends and implications for the future have been highlighted. The article points out that the full benefits of an electronic document delivery system can not be realised until discovery, ordering and delivery are integrated. The article ends with fundamental questions about structure and operation of delivery service in administrative, technical and legal areas. Abstract: The progress in Information Technology and the emergence of Internet and its WWW has given a new face-lift to the information systems. The library collections with the tradition of its holdings are now added with the electronic information resources in various formats. The popularity and ease in use of WWW has lured most of the reputed publishers to host their products on Web. In this changing information environment, the role of information professionals is becoming crucial and challenging. It is becoming important to introduce users to maximum and optimum utilisation of electronic information resources. In this paper, the authors have highlighted the need and importance of user instruction services and suggested user instruction programmes for better utilisation of electronic information resources.
