Abstract: Books can play an important role in children’s lives. Research has shown that children’s use of books can increase their cognitive, social, and motivational development. In addition, access to narratives from different cultures can offer children opportunities to better understand the world around them as well as who they are in relation to that world. Every day the news media report misunderstandings, intolerance and outright aggression between people from different cultures. Age-old disputes over land, water, religious and cultural practices fuel intolerance. Children absorb the culture and attitudes of their community. Consequently, cycles of intolerance pass from generation to generation. But there is some hope for change: research has shown that sharing personal experiences can change attitudes. Change can happen when children read children’s books from other cultures. International Children’s Digital Library Foundation is the mother organization of the International Children’s Digital Library (ICDL). The mission of the International Children’s Digital Library Foundation is to prepare children for life in an ethnically and culturally diverse world by building the world’s largest online multicultural repository of children’s literature. Present paper attempt to highlights the analysis and evaluation of above mentioned digital library . URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1231 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: University libraries have vast store of information in various forms. These sources of information can be accessed through Internet from any corner of the world. But Indian University libraries are lagging behind in this direction. But they can not afford to remain isolated form the world of information. There is a need to cat up with modern trends, which is possible only through digitization of libraries. The present paper tries to analyse the present scenario of Indian University libraries and made an attempt to propose digital libraries in Indian Universities. The proposed development of Digital University libraries have been suggested in three phases .Phase I: Acquiring Materials in Digital form; Phase II.: Digitization of Thesis, Dissertations, Manuscripts and Rare Books. Phase III: digitization of books and Journals . Lastly author has suggested that INFLIBNET which has taken up automation and networking of university libraries in India should extend its programmes to digitization of university libraries. Abstract: A very large part of the content in our country is in various local languages. Language is a barrier to get the full advantage of this knowledge. In order to remove the language barrier, computer and IT solutions can play a major role. It is needed to create a system of multilingual content knowledge base so that it can serve all-regional community requirements. However this is not an easy task as there are various technological hurdles and lack of commitment. Commercial companies are not interested in developing such solutions, as there is no big market for them. This paper gives an insight about developing the local language solutions and it’s pros and cons. It also discusses about the initiatives taken by the government and its supported organisatons. Abstract: This paper mainly traces the historical development of consortia based library services. States that the consortial approach in the form of cooperation was initiated by Melvil Dewey in 1880s. Main factors behind such cooperation are outlined. States that like any other form of library services consortia were also first came into existence in the United States where by the year 1970 more then 125 academic library consortia were functional. Finds that now the trend has changed and consortia are coming up in developing countries also mainly for the acquisition of electronic resources. Briefly touches the history of consortial development in India where it had not been very successful mainly due to human reasons. Describes in details the two recently formed consortia in India i.e. INDEST and E-journal Consortium of UGC Infonet. Describes the pros and cons of the present model of subscription to full set of journals of publishers in the form of so called “Big Deals” and advises that these big deals may not be really big in many cases. Outlines some of the guidelines for the librarians in these conditions. Concludes that the consortia in the country should work in close cooperation and not in competition to each other. Abstract: The enforcement of change happening in the knowledge creation and information management force to traditional library becomes a digital/ hybrid library (Yadav and Chidambaram, 2008). There are a number of university and institutional libraries, which are in the process of conversion of traditional library system into modern digital library systems. The credit for this movement is gone to Open Source Digital Library Software (OSDLS). Due to the OSDLS, digital library planning and development in practice has been increased in the world. The university library of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) has also started digital library initiative and development of the Health Sciences Digital Library (HSDL) using open source Greenstone Digital Library Software (GSDL). The objective of this article is to give the analogy of road map for the plan and development of HSDL. It also narrates the digital library activities carried out in BFUHS university library. Abstract: Information Literacy warrants acknowledging the documents cited for writing articles, research papers, term papers and assignments. Those who copy/use another person’s ideas illegally are now known in the LIS circle as ‘Plague Patients’. In order to be free from ‘Plague’ the academic scan use any plagiarism detection tool available. This will help to avoid unintentional duplication of information as well. Plagiarism detection tools are useful to the academic community to detect plagiarism of others and avoid such unlawful activity. The present paper describes some of the plagiarism detection tools available for plagiarism checking. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1629 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: The vast amounts of information produced in the world are now for a large part digital. The task of managing the ever-increasing digital objects throughout their life cycle and to preserve them in perpetuity becomes more and more complex because of they are fragile, volatile and ephemeral in nature. Their viability depends on technologies that are rapidly and contiouusly changing. Furthermore, as newer digital technologies rapidly appear and older ones are discontinued, information that relies on obsolete technologies soon becomes inaccessible. This paper addresses the present scenario, framework, formats, planning and the systems and projects developed all over world for preservation, the metadata used to manage them. It also discusses the practical considerations necessary to create a digital archive. This article would help Library & Information Professionals (LIP) to navigate this complex new field.
